Part 2 - Commissioner Abe is in his uniform, praising Bernardi as he is required to do at a police memorial service with full honors. The victim is then remembered by his partner as a good man. His son is handed the folded flag as the widow weeps. - Facing the grand jury, Sami is asked to state what happened the night Bernardi was killed. The prosecutor points out the patient she was visiting was in fact a detective. Sami the demure sits with her hands clasped and calmly explains she found Bernardi standing over Rafe when she came back from the washroom. The prosecutor questions how she came to have a gun. Sami replies and starts to talk about seeing a razor. The prosecutor notes her original testimony said a knife. Sami points out it was a blade and she just remembered it was a razor when recently hypnotized. The prosecutor gets sarcastic about the hypnosis and the fact that the supposed razor was not found. She requests the identity of the hypnotist. Her mother. This leads to more sarcasm. Sami snaps she had to do something, and there was nothing else she could do but fire! The grand jury observes and listens. Sami apologizes for the outburst. She is admittedly emotional. The jury may now ask questions. A suited man wonders why she did not think to cry for help before shooting. She earnestly replies it was a split second decision, she had only a few seconds to act. The prosecutor presses her about her past with Bernardi. There was no prior personal relationship or animosity between them? Pause. Sami is ordered to answer the question. Meanwhile EJ paces outside like a lion, irate that he cannot be there to protect her. Justin assures him she will be fine, provided she stick to the truth. EJ stares. Inside, Sami lies she never had any personal interaction with the cop. She only later discovered who and what he was. Her sole motive that night was to protect her ex husband. The juror nods. The prosecutor dragon lady stares. Sami soon emerges and updates Justin and EJ. She is cautiously optimistic, even about the response of the juror who posed a question. All of a sudden, much to their surprise, the widow Bernardi shows up to continue her tirade. She rages at Sami that she deserves to rot in prison forever! - Maggie gives Dan a pep talk. Of course this bad phase with teen JJ will pass. He hopes so but has his doubts. She senses he is also preoccupied. He is waiting for a train set for Parker. Maggie is anxious to see him and asks if she should call before she comes back with him. Dan thanks her and walks her to the door. He asks her not to repeat what he told her and she agrees to keep their conversation confidential. However, it is a promise she intends to break! - JJ notices his mother’s silence. Jen chooses her words carefully. Her son is no idiot or baby. He and he alone is responsible for his actions regardless of how he feels about Daniel. He will have to pay! He must go to class and then apologize to the owner of the store, plus ask how he can make it up to her. She warns she will check that he did as instructed. Then he must come home, at which time they will discuss how he can regain her trust, which he has blown sky high! JJ starts to protest. Jen does not let him get in a word edgewise and orders him to class. He heads out, but not directly to class. - Abigail is deep in thought when Chad returns to their table. She is flabbergasted about what he told her. He points out there is no proof but Stefano fled the country the day after Bernardi was shot. He is disgusted to call himself his son and hopes he will never be like him. Abigail squeezes his arm and tenderly tells him he never will be, Chad fears he will always end up doing as the phoenix. She admits she was judgmental in the past but even the DiMeras could not change him! She also can relate to his concern, as her own dad’s biological father was an abuser. Chad had no idea. She muses he was no twinkly grandpa. Duke was pure evil. Chad says yikes upon hearing the name Duke. Abigail recalls papa Jack the good also feared he would one day morph into his father. He never did. She goes on to say that Chad is not and never will be any more like his biological father than Jack was, They are holding hands over the table and Chad is touched. - Dan answers his door clad in a towel, dripping wet from the shower. Tis JJ, who growls he must be expecting his mom! Daniel patiently explains he is expecting a delivery person. JJ leers to stop trying to turn his mom against him cos it will not work! He storms off. Meanwhile, Maggie drops by Horton house, The redhead is relieved when Jen informs her JJ is not present as she wishes to speak privately with her. Dan shared what happened. Jen snaps he should not have done that! She emotionally catches herself and apologizes. The redhead notes Dan feels badly for her. As a mother, she understands the delicacy of the situation. Jen hangs her head and cries she would rather not talk about this. Maggie sympathetically leaves and Jen closes her door. She now sends a troubling text to Dan. She feels she needs time on her own to sort things out. Meanwhile, she would appreciate him not telling others about her son’s problems! Dan is exasperated by the breakup text and stomps around in his towel. - Sami waits with EJ’s arm draped around her. It is making her nervous that the widow is out to get her. Justin pleasantly suggests Mrs. Bernardi go on home to her son. The widow in black talks justice. Sami excuses herself for some water. Justin bears news for silent, solemn EJ. He just received a text from Hong Kong. SHIN is IN! He now suggests it is a sign things will work out for EJ and Sami. Sami returns, more anxious than ever about what feels like an endless wait. EJ elegantly glances at his watch. Moments later, the announcement comes that the verdict is in. Justin notes the grand jury has come to a decision. EJ considers. Sami takes a deep breath.
