Carrie points out John practically raised her. She wants his personal opinion. Just then, Bo and Hope solemnly walk in, having returned from John's madhouse of an arraignment. An angry mob was screaming at him. John enters with Roman and Marlena. Someone has thrown an egg at him. Carrie wonders if the judge set bail. How soon can they take him home? Marlena explains the judge set bail alright. John drawls his assets have been frozen so he is not able to make bail. Roman notes he must remain in custody. Carrie is angry and even angrier still to see he was beaten up by his fellow inmates. She wants a plan to have him released. John points out Bo and Hope have arranged for the FBI to let him stay there. Roman steps away to take a call. Bo and Hope are sorry people are blaming him. John declares he will prove he is innocent and get everyone's money back. Marlena insists he is a good and honest man. - Abe and Lexie happily walk in the town square, where he has planned to run his campaign from. Pretty Lexie complains EJ's announcement was dirty and she fears it is just the beginning! Mayor Abe later gets off his phone, having learned that John could not make bail. He knows his friend is innocent but they have to prove it! - Angry EJ is on the phone when Nicole enters the mansion. He is livid about a newspaper article on him. She teases he does not like to be called nefarious and pompous. He demands to know if she will help him as his publicist! She snaps she will only be his employee, no fringe benefits. EJ pretends he is not interested in her any other way. They have a deal. She wants a high six figure salary, benefits. He gets off the phone and repeats they have a deal. She agrees. Now what? He wants them to shake on it. She asks if it is binding. Like s steel trap. EJ then brushes past her. She appears to be affected. He gets them both coffee and sits next to her as she works at the computer. PR Nicole decides they should play to his strength. He is a financial success and the town is hurting. Besides, Abe has already cornered the market on family values. EJ wants to exploit his dullness. Nicole thinks they can make people interested in EJ, but they must somehow humanize him. After all, he does not have custody of his kids. EJ sadly glances at their photos. Nicole realizes he misses them and she can relate. He recalls how wonderful she was with them. He is doing this for his children, so that they will be proud of who he is and where they come from. Nicole promises to help him make it happen. Now to work. She suggests they show he has a philanthropic side. They must make him a virtual saint. He asks how. She advises him to throw a big fundraiser for a worthy cause. He likes it and asks her to find something. He now suggests they go and grab some lunch. Already? It could be a working lunch. Nicole points out it will be nothing else. EJ is exasperated. "I do not want to have sex with you in the Brady pub!" he exclaims. - Lexie and Abe walk around the town square, and she admits it is nice not to have a lab coat on for a change. He wonders if she minds cutting back on her work. No, and she is having fun. She spies an EJ for Mayor poster on the wall and angrily crumples it. She cannot take this! - At the station, Hope has an exciting update for Bo. She got the name of the broker who is handling Alice's mysterious bank account from Salem. Bo is impressed. Hope finds it strange she did not know of this person, as she was the executor of Alice's will. She gets ready to call. Bo hesitates. Does she really want to hear everything this person knows about her grandma's account? She must have had a good reason for keeping said account a secret. Hope feels that gran would really want her to know. Bo points out that if blackmail was involved, the threat could have been against someone Alice cared about, not Alice herself. Either way, Hope vows to get to the bottom of the mystery ... - Austin takes Carrie into a room and insists he wants to clear the air. Carrie admits the more she hears him talk, acting like John is guilty, the angrier she gets! Austin laments he is torn. Carrie lectures he knows John better than that. John is so honest. Austin calls her honest. Carrie reminds him that who she is is in part because of him. Austin sighs if she had seen what he has seen ... Carrie insists she would know it was wrong. It kills her that he does not believe in John. Austin does not know what to tell her. She wants to know what he is going to say in his SEC report. Austin becomes silent and she assumes he will say he is guilty. Austin flies off the handle that she actually asked what he would include in his report. Nevertheless, as far as he is concerned, their marriage vows still hold true. They have been married for 5 years and he was excited at the thought of spending their anniversary in Salem. Carrie too. The mood becomes light as they recall the plans they had when they last left Salem together. By now, they could have had a couple of kids, but then life got in the way. They traveled, got engrossed in their careers. Carrie thanks him for his endless support and they kiss. Austin grins he thought they could work on having kids from here. Carrie thinks that is a nice idea. But she wants their kids to have grandparents and if John is in jail ... She is sorry for feeling her family comes between them. Austin points out his family has its own issues, as her in-laws are Kate and Stefano DiMera! She laughs. Austin declares he is the luckiest married person on the planet. Carrie gushes no, that would be her. Austin feels closer to her than ever and loves her so much. She loves him too. They kiss. - Roman and Marlena have escorted John down to his private cell. Pal Roman promises to keep him safe, with a private guard when he needs to be taken anywhere. Marlena may remain there as long as she wishes. She hugs John, but is then locked outside the bars. Roman says he is sorry and departs. Marlena hates this. John urges her to hang in there. She is right here. He reaches up and holds her face. They later talk. He wants the family to stay far away, to avoid the wrath of the townsfolk. That includes Brady. Marlena reluctantly agrees. She wishes this nightmare were over. Perhaps they should not have come back. John declares he needed to come back and prove his innocence. Then and only then can they move on with their lives. She wonders where the FBI is getting this so-called evidence against him. So does he ... - At the pub, Lexie assures Abe she will stay in control. She is sorry her family is such a liability. Abe smiles the family involves her and he would not want to be without her. He wants to focus on running a good, clean campaign. Enter EJ. He smugly smiles and wants to know what how they are on this fine day! Lexie is ready to give him a piece of her mind. He claims he wants the campaign done with civility. He brings up healthy competition and suggests Abe explain how it works to Lexie. Abe insists no one needs to explain anything to Lexie and no one could explain his behavior. Lexie wants a word in private. Nicole steps in as the publicist. Lexie cannot believe she is working for him and demands her brother meet her outside. He agrees and pats Abe on the way out. - Back at the station, Hope informs Bo she has managed to arrange an appointment with the financial advisor of Alice's secret bank account.
