PART 1 - Kate fusses over Austin at the festive pub, and he reminds her he is not six years old. She criticizes Sami for working instead of being with the kids. Austin asks her to stop. Marlena happens by and gives him an icy look as she passes. Kate would like to know why she snubbed him. Austin sighs. - At the town square, Gabi and Will are helping clean and decorate for Halloween. They are getting extra credit for sociology class. There are balloons, fall leaves, and pretty decorations. They kiss. Marlena arrives and smiles at Gabi. She loves that she was invited and laughs when she sees a broom. Nearby, Mel tells Chad and Abigail they need more string for the decorations. Chad steps away. Abigail asks about their costume shopping together. Mel refers to him as a great guy. Abigail pouts. Chad heads over to Sonny to show him the latest on the website - someone is now placing betting numbers! Meanwhile, Marlena and Will talk about John. She cannot be home right now, as the FBI is interviewing him. She is also glad to spend time with Will. Will excuses himself to get some water. Marlena now mentions love to Gabi. It is hard to find and harder to keep. Gabi is sorry about what she and John are going through. Marlena thanks her. When it is over, she will make a big family meal and Gabi can sit next to Will. Gabi replies she would like that. - At DiMera mansion, EJ is livid about a newspaper column that came out, claiming that a DiMera mayor would only plunder Salem. Nicole did not know about it. EJ is livid. How could this happen! Stefano enters and demands to know how this was possible! Nicole is supposed to be the guardian of his son. This is a disaster in the making! He starts to explode. EJ stops him. Nicole explains she is upset too. Her contacts were not aware of the column. Stefano rages they also have a popular website. Nicole admits they already have over 15,000 hits. EJ notes the damage was done so fatha should let it go. The phoenix wants to hire a crisis management group. Nicole agrees and shows the name of the firm she intends to call. Stefano drawls they are the best in the business and he has hired them already. They will be there in 20 minutes. He suggests Nicole go and prepare, as he would like time alone with his son. Exit Nicole. Stefano continues to criticize her. EJ defends her and states she has done a good job. Stefano reminds him she could not prevent Carver from crashing his TV interview. EJ assures him she is doing her best. Stefano wonders why she would want to even help a man who cheated with her sister and whom she believes was responsible for her mother's death. And why would he ask her to help? EJ retorts he trusts her. The phoenix claims she is either ill willed or incompetent, so she will not help him get elected. Therefore, Elvis must fire her today! EJ flat out refuses. In addition, he is certain that she is not after anything from him. Nicole is smart, strong, talented, resilient, and her own woman. She would be fantastic at anything. Stefano grumbles except in one area. EJ implores him to respect his judgment. Stefano sighs he is letting his emotions get in the way of the facts. EJ gently states he trusts her and needs her. He will not let her go. "God help us," grumbles the exasperated phoenix. "Don't tell me that you are in love with Nicole!" EJ’s face softens ... - Back at the pub, Austin admits Marlena is displeased he is working for the SEC at present. Kate thinks that was shallow. She wonders if Carrie is also mad. Austin changes the subject and wants to order. Kate quietly asks if he thinks John is guilty. Austin explains the prosecution has an iron clad case against him. The evidence proves it. Kate points out these charges do not fit the man she knew. Austin theorizes John went through trauma, which might have had a lasting effect. Perhaps he has memory lapses and does not even remember embezzling those millions. - Back at the town square, Chad shows Sonny and Will the suspected gambling info on the site. Chad is worried. Sonny thinks it will blow over. Will is not that fussed either. But Chad is ... Meanwhile, Mel informs Abigail how Chad has a fear of ghosts and then there is Frankenstein! She calls him HOT and remarks he like Abigail so much. Abigail primly quips she feels the same way. Mel mentions her father but Abigail refuses to let Jack back into her life. She asks about Daniel. Mel tries to make light of the situation with both Jack and Dan dating Jen, but admits things are tough. Marlena seeks out Will for some private time. They sit at a table and she wants to hear all about school. It is good, with the exception of a business course. Marlena tells Will he can talk to her about anything. He pauses. She is sorry she could not get to see him sooner. She points out he had earlier shared there were things he could not put in writing, that they would have to wait to talk about until he saw her in person. Will stares. Marlena adds she is here now. What did he wish to talk about ...?. Meanwhile, Gabi is with Abigail and Mel. She is glad Will has his mom. She admits they have not had sex since the first time. She insists it is no big deal, as he is still showing her how he feels in other ways. Melanie stammers that is fine. Abigail assures her friend he is so preoccupied with John that sex must be the last thing on his mind, but she and Mel don't seem to mean what they are saying ... Will blurts out to Marlena that he feels confused. Marlena asks him to elaborate. Gabi joins them for a moment, to enlists Will's help soon, then walks away to let them catch up. Marlena wonders if things are alright between the two teens. Will stammers things are great, hastily excuses himself, and goes after Gabi. Marlena says nothing. Her eyes mirror her concern, - Back at the pub, Kate wonders why Austin does not stay with her at the mansion. Because of Stefano. She hopes he will not be staying at the pub.
