TEMPTING THE FATES ... - At the police station, Bo has a mug of water for Lexie, who is sitting weakly in a chair, with Hope crouched down beside her. Where is her father? Hope explains to Lexie her father is gone. He wished to stay but Roman thought it was best he leave, so he was escorted home by EJ. Meanwhile Abe is bringing the car around. Marlena promises they will not talk about any more bad things and is sorry for the grief they caused. Lexie knows they wanted to keep her father in jail, however. Abe now rushes back in. He suggests taking her to the hospital, though she would rather just go straight home. - At the pub, Austin encourages Carrie to at least try the food. Ring ring! Tis sister Billie. He steps away for the latest on Stefano. Carrie woefully looks at the pregnancy test she bought and frowns. She then quickly leaves a brief message for Rafe, that she must talk to him. She finishes with the words "I love you." Austin comes back, looking jealous, and demands to know who that was! She pretends it was her concerned mother. Oh. Austin now bears news on Stefano. He is a free man, all charges dismissed. Carrie sadly states nothing is turning out the way it was supposed to. Austin is still concerned she has not eaten. She has lost her appetite and wants to go home. She walks over to the bar to get a box for the food. Austin intends to pay the bill, but finds he does not have the right amount of cash. He opens Carrie's handbag and is stunned to find the pregnancy test! - Nicole is shopping for baby clothes online when Rafe shows up at her door. She is happy to see her undead pal and hugs him. She wonders if they put away the big bad wolf yet. Nope. Stefano is free and apparently some kind of hero in the eyes of the CIA. He now wants to know how she and the baby are. He sincerely hopes that EJ has not been bothering her. Nicole quips she has handled EJ and is fine, then adds he can be with Carrie. She and the baby will be fine on their own. Rafe, however, will never let EJ know that is his baby. Nicole still suspects that Rafe's relationship with Carrie could put a damper on their plan to pass off her baby as his. She is curious how Austin took the news of their love. Rafe admits Austin does not know yet. Nicole thinks Carrie must be a saint if she is willing to keep her secret. She makes Rafe promise it will work. He knows it will and sings Carrie's praises. Nicole notes Rafe really loves the girl, who is the opposite of her sister. She gloats that Sami will have a fit over her sister and Rafe falling for each other. She wants to see all the pictures of her reaction! Rafe chuckles. Nicole teases it is just as well he found Pollyanna - aka Carrie - for he might have been stuck with her! Nicole lets him see what she was doing on the computer. Rafe is amused by her baby clothing choices and then realizes his ringer is off. He has a message from Carrie, who wants to see him immediately. But he knows not where she is. He heard plates in the background. Nicole feels like some clam chowder and suggests they try heading to the Brady pub. And so they depart together. Rafe has no idea his dream of happily ever after is about to be shattered ... - At the station, Bo, Hope, John, and Marlena discuss the audacity and the lack of justice in the Stefano case. Marlena laments that man will never be punished. Bo considers. ISA Shane now joins Roman and the gang with bad news. He went as high as possible, with no luck at all. It appears the government feels indebted to Stefano for his help. At this rate, they will not even be able to touch him for the pension funds he stole. Marlena notes he still tried to bomb them. Shane notes there is no proof. They now discuss Harmon. Shane explains they do not want him to know they are onto him. Bo thinks it might not have worked anyway. John concludes they are really back to square one all over again! Roman must excuse himself to go to Abe and suggests they not give up. Hope informs the gang that 30 years ago today, Stefano officially began his reign of terror. They all agree it is not right. Bo believes if it were up to the phoenix, they would all be dead. John points out the year is still young. Hope exclaims they all know that he simply must be stopped! - Abe takes Lexie home. She sits on the sofa with Celeste and her husband. Abe does not want to talk about what transpired at the police station Celeste goes upstairs to get her shivering daughter a blanket. Lexie is out of breath. Abe asks her to let a doctor make a house call and check her out. She agrees to let Daniel come, then reminds him she does have a terminal brain tumor. There are only a few months remaining to her life and no one can change that. Celeste returns with the blanket and tucks her in on the sofa. Dr. Dan arrives and learns that the patient fainted. She insists she is fine now, then asks worried Abe to fetch her some takeout soup. Abe agrees and asks Celeste to accompany him. Once Dr. Dan and Lexie are alone, she sighs. Her former colleague wonders how she really feels."Lousy," she whispers. The headaches are worsening and her body aches. She is having weak spells and feels more and more that her time is running out. Dan consoles her as she blinks back the tears. Her feeling is soon confirmed by the medicine man ... - At the town square, Celeste complains to Abe that Stefano is guilty as sin, yet once again escaped prosecution. Abe is not pleased about it either. She adds at least Alexandra will not have to see her father in prison in her final months. Her remaining time should be stress free. Abe laments it is intolerable cruelty having to lose the love of his life. Celeste notes it must also be hard to hide how he despises Stefano. Abe suddenly rages what he did to her is unspeakable.
