Suited EJ enters and blinks back the tears. Mel, Lexie, and Chad arrive, all wearing black. Lexie asks if EJ is okay. He thanks them for being here. Chad mutters of course. Lexie gasps she knows father wanted to be buried with the ancestors in Italia. However, this is a very important viewing, for them to all have the chance to say goodbye. Chad cannot believe someone killed his father in cold blood and still walks the earth free! EJ pats him on the shoulder. Chad concedes he may not have been a good man, but he hates whoever put him here. He talks revenge. Lexie ushers him out of the room. Mel dutifully follows. Ding dong! Tis Nicole clad in her little black dress. EJ invites her in. She stammers she heard about the viewing and is truly sorry. EJ thanks her for it means a lot. She knows how much he loved his father. “Right,” says he. He notes Stefano liked her ... most of the time. Nicole gushes she loved how he protected his family and she thinks EJ inherited that quality from him. EJ thanks her again and reaches out to embrace her. She suggests he not read anything into this. EJ coldly walks off for brunch and advises her to let herself out, but Nicole does not leave. Instead, she enters the living room to see the phoenix. Meanwhile, EJ presents Lexie with a box of old family photographs, some dating from the 1920s. He is of the opinion that she and Theo should have it. Lexie would rather he keep it but EJ unhappily points out he is not family. Lexie begs to differ. EJ sighs that Stefano made it clear he was not his fatha after he found out. Lexie argues he is all he wanted his son to be. EJ muses he was all he wanted a fatha to be and looks ready to cry. Lexie urges him to hang onto that memory. - Gabi meets Andy in the alley, her temper as red as her outfit! She tells him off for ruining everything with his stupid plan! The rat was too over the top and led Chad to get her cop brother involved. Andrew gets nervous upon hearing her brother - that angry guy he saw - is with law enforcement. Gabi snaps he will not leave her alone. She even had to lie to come here and meet him. Modeling is out and she will get less time with Chad. Andy offers to make it up to her and appears more than just a little disappointed that their deal is off. He stops her from leaving and claims he really needs the money. She suggests they back off for a time and proceed slowly. She complains she and Chad were just starting to connect. Andy tries to get close. She warns him not to touch her, but to lie low and await her next instructions. He calls after her that she will see, he shall fix everything! - Will comes out of Marlena’s guestroom. He is her favorite guest. Will reminds her he is also a murder suspect. She insists they will find out who did it cos it was not him. Sami is at the door when Will opens it. Sami insists she believes in him. Will is testy. Sami now walks in and points out Marlena was not herself when she ran into her the night that Stefano was shot. Will cannot believe that it sounds like she is actually accusing Marlena. Sami glances at Marlena and coyly states she is not accusing anyone. Marlena thinks Sami has a point. So many of Salem’s citizens were enemies of Stefano that any little action or behavior could now be misread. She assures Will his mother is just worried he will be set up to take the fall for something he did not do. Sami agrees, lamenting the phoenix always rises from the ashes. “Not this time,” Marlena says decidedly, a strange look in her eye. - Nicole approaches Stefano lying in his casket and admits he had her convinced he was almost immortal. The same was true about EJ. She did and still does find it attractive. She touches her tummy and confesses she wants her baby to be fierce and unafraid like a DiMera. She smiles the baby is indeed EJ’s - and Stefano's grandchild - yet EJ can never know She does not want her baby raised as a DiMera even though she is glad it is his child. Kate clears her throat. Nicole turns around with a start. Kate is glittery in black. She demands to know what she is doing here. Just saying goodbye. Kate angrily orders her to leave, as this visit is rather ghoulish. Nicole asks who she is anyway. Kate snaps she is his wife. Nicole snaps she heard he kicked her to the curb. The insults fly. EJ enters the room and implores them to stop. Nicole is sorry and exits. Kate just wished to pay her respects and is sorry too. EJ discreetly leaves so that she may say goodbye. He is aware of how deeply she loved him. Kate cries over the loss of his love. He gave her a chance when no one else would and accepted her as she was. She mourns over what he did to them, for they were invincible. He should never have tested her. And then why did he punish her, why was he so unforgiving? She stands by the roses and points out he backed her into a corner. Not a wise move. Now all she can be is sorry for what she has done. She wipes away her tears, still wearing her huge wedding ring, and then places her hand on his, tormented by what she did. But she is not the only one ...
