He admires a sentimental one. Maggie flounces over and hugs them with a smile. She is ready to shop with the family! Mel suggests they start with Victor. Maggie laments he has everything he needs. Like her in his life, says emotional Dan. She and Mel start to admire what is in the shops. Dan frowns as his hands start to shake. Mel would like him to take a picture of her with Maggie by the majestic Christmas tree. His hand shakes slightly, though they do not notice. Mel announces she is done shopping, as she is giving them all spa certificates. The couple's massage would be good for Maggie and Victor, though Maggie does not think he would go for it. Mel admits then she is not done and the gals head off to shop. Dan tells them to go ahead and clutches a railing with his still shaking hand. Meanwhile Maggie wants to find a gift for her new son. They giggle and shop. Mel looks at the picture on her phone and is disappointed it turned out to be blurry. Maggie assures her they can get another one. She is also hopeful about them having a family photo. Mel gushes that Dan has realized what she always knew - life is better with Maggie! They exchange I love yous and hug each other tight. The redhead later admires the elegant cufflinks she has gotten for her son. - Dr. Lexie is in her office at the hospital studying an x-ray. Enter the phoenix. He states if that were his, she would see only his broken heart, but Lexie is still mad because of his actions. He wants things to be better between them. She accuses him of having only a locked heart filled with secrets and lies! Stefano sighs and shakes his head. She thinks he wasted both their time with this unannounced, uninvited visit. He is sorry she feels that way. She snaps how could he ever think her reaction would be different. The phoenix explains he dropped by after an appointment. Lexie suddenly becomes concerned. He replies it was just for his diabetes and takes a seat, as he can see what is in her good heart. She is always there for family, as when Giovanni went missing. Lexie sternly suggests he and EJ do not deserve her compassion. Stefano declares his heart is filled with unbreakable love for her. She is not sure what to say. He informs her their bond will always be there, no matter how complicated. He promises her he loves her. She sniffles she knows and she also knows he is taking advantage of how she forgives him again and again and again! She cries she has seen the news, filled with EJ's dirty accusations against her beloved husband Abe. He is her family and that was who they went after! Therefore, this time she will not forgive or forget! She inherited his instinct to protect her loved ones. By going against her husband, he has gone against her. Until he sees that, their relationship is dead! She says goodbye and sits down at her desk. Stefano fights back the tears, gives her one last look, and takes his leave. - Marlena looks at the IOU and gasps she knows Hope is waiting for her answer. She feels there is no guarantee it will work. Bo reminds her once the civil suit is over, John will be sent upstate. Marlena is dismayed the transfer was already approved. Rafe drawls Carrie is on the phone seeing if she can do something. Bo warns that is a dangerous prison and once John is there, he will be unable to protect him! Marlena stares, then gets testy. This is not an easy decision, going to the evil Stefano for help! And poor John is locked up for the holidays. She knows all he thinks about is the people who have lost it all. Hope insists Marlena can help but Marlena quips he would never forget the past and accept the help of the phoenix, freedom be damned! She adds she knows what she must do. She hands back the IOU and implores Hope to use it to save her John. Rafe grins with relief. Marlena fears her husband will never forgive her. Bo points out he will be free. Hope assures her she has made the right decision. Marlena whispers she needs a minute and steps to the window, looking outside. Carrie is soon off the phone and happily hugs Rafe upon hearing Marlena's decision. Bo helps Hope with her coat and pensively puts his arms around her as she murmurs now she must convince Stefano to honor the IOU. Bo remarks that is easier said than done. - Dan nervously enters Lexie's office for his test results. She has positive news. He has the genetic marker for MG but is not afflicted. He still wants to confide in her and requests doctor/patient confidentiality. He seeks an explanation of his tremors and sighs he has told no one about them. He has more questions than answers. Lexie assures him it is a good sign that he does not have MG. Dan the surgeon, however, snaps he still knows nothing. Lexie offers to run tests. Dan laments he will also need her to cover for him at the hospital. He must pull himself out of surgical rotation, as he is not willing to put his patients at risk. - Bo and Hope approach Stefano at the mansion. The phoenix is in a foul mood. Hope solemnly hands him the IOU and demands he honor it. Bo reminds him he is a man of his word. They know he made that promise and is honor bound to make good on it. And so he must free John Black! Stefano growls it is only a piece of paper and he does not have to do a damn thing! He turns his back. Hope points out he gave this to Alice after she helped save EJ's life. Bo acknowledges the enormity of what they are asking. Hope refuses to give up. Stefano turns around and explains the note was given to Alice. Hope argues the card says the debt extends to the bearer. Bo quips the bearer is now Hope. The phoenix claims he does not even have the power to free John. Hope believes otherwise and says so ... - Lexie thinks Dan is being brave. He mutters he has no choice. Lexie is aware of what being a surgeon means to him and is sorry he is hurting. He clasps his hands in silence. - Maggie has taken Mel to the pub for hot chocolate and a chat about the website ordeal. She wonders if Mel would like to discuss what happened. Mel admits it is hard to get her life back to normal. Maggie understands. Mel adds she has made an appointment to speak with Dr. Evans. Maggie thinks that is a good idea. The redhead senses there is still something she is not telling her. Mel becomes teary-eyed and sighs she is right, there is indeed something and she will tell her all about it ...
