Hope teases Jen about her dressy black outfit and learns she has a lunch date with Dan. Abigail exits. Jen admits they are doing the low key thing, plus Daniel has to work New Year’s Eve at the hospital. Hope senses her cousin’s hesitation. Jen solemnly states so much has happened. “What if there is no getting back what we had?” Hope urges her not to be so doomsday and jokes Bo could talk some sense into her. Is she anxious about moving on? Jen insists Jack would want her to be happy and she was crazy about Daniel, but what if too much time has passed …? Hope tells her to trust it if she wants it. - At the church, helper Nicole is admiring a beautiful photo of Africa Eric took and placed in an envelope for her. He is pleased she likes it and murmurs she listened and helped him so he owes her. She is grateful. He suggests it is not enough and she admits there is something else her heart desires. He pours himself a holy coffee as she continues. Nicole suddenly asks him to be her date for this New Year’s Eve. The priest stares in disbelief. She corrects herself. She meant they could ring in the new year as pals, then stammers some more. She wonders when he can pick her up but the priest must say a firm NO. She gets defensive about his worrying what people will say. He explains he already volunteered and suggests she do the same. She thinks that is crazy considering who she is, what she wants ... - EJ walks outside the pub, as he is searching high and low for Samantha. Chad notices. EJ the optimist forces a smile and explains Christmas is late for him this year but rest assured it shall come! He enters the pub with Chad and boasts of his recent magical moments with Samantha. And that’s not all. He even informed her that he wanted them to be a family together. Chad wonders what she said. Not anything really but it is fine, for he did not wish to pressure her. Chad believes his brother might be a tad too optimistic, then growls a low murmur when Abigail enters. They admire each other from a distance and EJ muses he seems to have something to look forward to! Abigail approaches and greets them with a big smile. EJ hopes she had a nice Christmas. It was better than she anticipated. EJ soon realizes they spent Christmas day together. Chad had a great time. Abigail chalks it up to being at Horton house, and steps away to pick up some coffee. EJ grins. “She’s very attractive.” He reminds Chad they once were an item. Chad grumbles that would get him off the hook for not helping him with Mel. - Dan is on the phone and has to check his date book for a confirmation number. He opens it, gets intense, and explains he was paged, thus ending the call. Maggie arrives and questions why he pretended he was paged. He shows her the date book page and she realizes today is 2 years to the day that Parker was baptized and Daniel lost him! He takes out his picture of toddler Parker. Maggie is sympathetic. The medicine man confesses he is doing his darn best not to focus on what happened but it is not working. He wonders if she could tell him about the boy, as he is aware she and Victor have seen him. Maggie remarks he is a lovely lad with a great smile who can throw a ball and is a delight. Dan gets teary-eyed and sighs things get magnified during the holidays. The redhead agrees. Dan now mentions his lunch date with Jen. Maggie notes this is a difficult anniversary and he will need time to deal with it instead. - Rafe sits on a bench with Sam, surrounded by poinsettias, and drawls he is done playing games. He saw her with her arms around EJ. Sami innocently wonders why he did not say anything and adds she felt badly for upset EJ, who has visited his sister’s grave. Rafe sarcastically calls it a consoling gesture, then brings up the matter of EJ as her boss. Sami explains they have already discussed that. Rafe goes on to say that EJ is probably getting the same mixed signals as he is! Sami sighs and flashes back to EJ asking her if she felt what was between them too. She uncomfortably stands up. So does Rafe and he insists they are gonna finish this conversation! He does not want to start the New Year on a sour note. He points out she almost seems to be encouraging EJ. Sami exclaims she is confused and feels caught in the middle. He concludes she purposely puts herself there. She argues that EJ is the father of her children and he has changed. Rafe dares her to at least admit it to herself. - Jennifer confesses to Hope she is not comfortable with change. Hope advises her to focus on the now. She has been there and knows it can work another time. Jen suddenly realizes she left her important files at the hospital. She must get them before Dan picks her up for their date. She snaps she is not one of his pet projects. “You and your freaking faith!” She is not him, not will she be made in his image. She takes off in a huff. - Sami argues Rafe did not warn her about any deadline for her to gather her feelings. He drawls he has figured his out and is done with the games. Therefore, he is DONE! She wonders about Gabi’s wedding. Rafe will work with her to make it a success but refuses to be in any competition, especially with the likes of EJ. Sami is tense when he leaves her standing alone to ponder. - Back at the pub, EJ expresses his sympathy that it did not work out with Melanie and advises Chad to accept she will not be back. He needs to move on. He only wants his brotha to be happy. Chad considers. EJ suggests he is angry primarily at himself, for he is responsible for what happened.
