Today is not the right day for him to have a new date with Jen. Jen has just arrived and overhears, though she does not show herself. Dan laments mama Maggie thinks he should cancel his date. Yes, for he is dealing with too much emotionally! Jen’s face falls and she scurries off. Dan insists he will not cancel his date cos Maggie is just plain wrong! Today is the day for him and Jen to share some quality time together and he refuses to give that up. But unhappy Jen has not heard and glumly gathers her files. At the pub, Nicole picks up some money from the floor. Customer Rafe says that is his money. She questions that. They get into a tiff about the money accusations, then burst out laughing. At the coffee house, Sami complains to Eric about her run-in with Rafe and wishes she had smacked him! He sips his coffee and suggests his volatile sister take a deep breath. He thinks she should give Rafe time and he will come around. Sami claims she did not say she wanted that and laments Rafe actually sounded final. He does not think she can choose but she knows exactly how she can choose! EJ suddenly appears and stands at her table with a boyish grin, his demeanor more Hugh Grant than DiMera. Dan has cleaned up and put on his sweater when he gets a text from Jen that she needs to take a raincheck. Maggie asks what is wrong. He sighs Jen wishes to cancel their date. Jen, now back at Horton house standing by the tree, gets his text reply. She texts him back that she is sick. Dan steps away to answer. Hope approaches Maggie, having had some police business, and asks who is sick. Maggie states Jen. Surprised Hope points out Jen was not sick when she was at the hospital earlier. Maggie now realizes she might have overheard something and asks Hope to come with her. Pretty Abigail walks along the town square with her shopping bags and flips her long blonde hair. Chad catches up with her and eagerly greets her. She teases he must be following her. Chad brings up New Year’s Eve and wonders whether she has plans. Not exactly, just board games with her mom at home, if such a dull thing even counts. And him? Chad claims he had not thought about it, then stammers he must get back to work, what with being the boss. He wishes her a Happy New Year and saunters off. Abigail observes with interest. Rafe has just finished telling Nicole about his conversation with Sami. Nicole wonders if he really meant it as she knows she is the one he longs to be with. Rafe admits that but exclaims he will not compete with EJ and to expect him to do so is unfair. She understands, as she feels the same way about Daniel. She is trying to get over him, which is why she did not want to be alone … She now excitedly gushes she knows a way they can help each other! Father Eric discreetly excuses himself. EJ pleasantly plops himself down and voices his relief that they are alone at long last. Sami asks what he wants. He reminds her he already made that perfectly clear and has yet to hear from her. Sami gets defensive about people thinking she cannot make important decisions. Yes she can! EJ is glad to hear it and charmingly adds he has another one for her … Jen mopes at the house and removes her jewelry. Knock knock! Tis Dr. Dan the medicine man bearing flowers. Nicole invites Rafe to be her date for the town square New Year’s Eve bash. EJ invites Samantha to be his date for the town square New Year’s Eve bash. He coos he was hoping to have her by his side and gently reaches for her hand across the table. “What do you say?” Sami gasps when he touches her fingers, then regains her composure and informs him she would be honored. After much convincing, Rafe agrees to make it official and asks Nicole to go out on New Year’s Eve. She would love to. “Something tells me it’ll be ..." Sami is now shown coyly smiling at EJ. “A night to remember!” she finishes, unaware that her nemesis has just snagged bachelor number two for the same party.EJ grins and gazes at the fair Samantha, his eyes filled with hope and glory ....
