All's Fair in Love and War, or is it ...?!

PART 1

- At the house, PR Jen is on the phone, defending Abe. She gets miffed when she is asked for Nicole's number, so the reporter can also speak with EJ's PR person. Enter Jack, the door having been unlocked. Jen is
a bundle of nerves. It has been damage control hell all morning. Jack explains there is something more important they must discuss. Abigail appears and Jack declares there is something the three of them must talk about. Abigail pouts. Jen ushers them to the sofa for family time and ignores her ringing phone. Jack starts by saying that Abigail wants her to know ... Abigail blurts out she hates fighting. So does Jen. Jen assumes she is not accepting the modeling job, but Abigail argues Mel will be there so she will not be alone. Mother and daughter disagree. Jack tries to avert another modeling war. He sees where they are both coming from. He
asks Jen what she has got against the modeling job. Jen informs her daughter the industry is hard on women. She would be happier in college, doing stuff in her free time, like she did. Jack now gives his daughter the floor. Abigail acknowledges Jen has valid points. She also reminds her
she was working in college as a writer. Jen quips she was not a model. Abigail quips she is not a child anymore and assures her folks she will make the right decisions, as they have set by example. Jack proudly puts an arm around his daughter. Jen wonders when her little girl morphed
into a responsible young woman. She is impressed. She will accept her modeling though she is still there for her if things get too intense. Abigail hugs her, smiles she loves her, and informs her trusting parents she will
be late as she has work study hours after class. They arrange to have dinner together. Jen thinks their girl is really something. Jack shares the sentiment. Jen thanks him. What did they ever do without him! He has clearly changed and that is a good thing. He is the same smart, funny
Jack she fell in love with. She sweetly adds he has also become the man she always believed he could be. He confesses he feels like the same old jerk. Jen notes he is still him, though the old Jack would not have fixed things the way he did today. She felt like she had a partner to look out
for her. He laments it took him long enough. Jen thinks he is amazing
and she would not change anything about the years it took them to get to this point ...
- Carrie is perched on her bed, working. She gets off the phone with
John. Austin returns from a jog and complains she also worked all night. She curses the time difference in Alamania, but he suspects she has been avoiding him. She denies it. He understands she is working hard for her family, yet it has been one thing after another since they came to Salem. He needs her too, for he cannot fix their marriage alone. He implores her to make an effort. They promised. She quietly vows to keep her promise and embraces him. Austin now suggests they move back to Switzerland. Carrie is caught off guard. They had agreed to think it over. He claims it
is the best for them. She, however, would rather remain in Salem. Austin sighs unhappily. Carrie points out that Marlena warned she would not be able to run away from her problems. Austin gets testy. Carrie reassures him they can stay here, work on their marriage, and build the great life they dreamed of. Austin relents, after looking into her eyes. He can be anywhere, as long as he has her. But there is one condition. She must accept his invitation for a romantic weekend getaway. She smiles in agreement. He kisses her and goes off to take a shower, wondering
where to take her. Once he is gone from the room, Carrie woefully looks down.
- Marlena shows up at Sami's door. Sami is surprised she is not out of town in Alamania. Marlena insists on coming in. She is sorry she missed the grandchildren, though she simply must speak to her daughter about something. Rafe unexpectedly enters and Sami is surprised to see him
too. He did not knock and drawls he forgot he no longer lives there. He stammers he is sorry for the interruption. He was hoping to take the kids to school. Sami points out they are already there. Rafe would like to take the kids to school tomorrow. Sami coldly replies if he is early enough, he may. Marlena stands quietly nearby and Rafe offers to help her and the gang, as Bo filled him in on the odd marriage scenario. Marlena thanks
him, then stops him from leaving. "You and Sami should talk." Sami is ready to explode. She shouts at Marlena for not staying out of their business. She does not need to be saved from herself. Marlena insists Rafe still loves her. Rafe seconds the motion. Marlena senses they love each other. She knows not what happened, but they must communicate
to fix their problems. Sami just wants her to get out, but mama Marlena stands her ground. She is not going anywhere! Rafe steps in. He thanks Marlena, reminds her he was the one who messed up, so he is the one who will have to make things right. He promises Sami he will make things right too. She scoffs. He realizes he should go and cordially exits. Sami bitterly waits for Marlena's speech. She suspects she wants to blame her for everything. Marlena wonders what she wants her to say. Sami snaps she will blame her for Rafe kissing her sister but how is that her fault?! Marlena would rather not get into that, but Sami presses. Marlena
suggests Sami likes to lash out at her when things go wrong. Sami leers she taught her that, refers her as mommy dearest, and brings up her past.
- Rafe is now at the office, packing some of his belongings. Carrie enters and nervously offers to come back later. He murmurs not to leave. She thinks she should go. He points out they must deal with this and makes
a joke about keeping their lips to themselves. Carrie relaxes and enters. Where has he been working lately? At the library. It is hot again so she removes her jacket. She points out he paid half the rent so he can come and work here. He goofily grins in agreement. This place is way better than the library. They gaze at each other ...
- Austin is in his office, seated at his desk. Abigail gingerly enters, having been summoned. He explains they are both adults. He will give it to her straight. She stops him, assuming she already knows what he will say ...
- Marlena calmly wonders how long she and Sami have to have this discussion. "You cheated on daddy!" And she walked out on all of them! Marlena points out her father moved on and she faced her demons. What about her?  Marlena will no longer let her blame what happened between herself and John for her own selfish, irresponsible behavior. She needs to grow up! Sami stares ...
- Jack admits he has regrets about the past. But Jen gets close and praises him for his effort and progress. She has realized just how much he means to her and becomes extremely emotional. "I LOVE YOU ..."
