SHADOW OF DOUBT!

PART 1

- EJ enters the mansion with Nicole, desperately seeking fatha or Kate,
to share his big news. Stefano is nowhere and he has left an envelope to Katherine on his chess set. Nicole is convinced that EJ will win the recount and wants to celebrate. He takes her face in his hands, states if
he wins, then they did it. He kisses her and she swoons. She starts to undress him and decides they should celebrate in private. EJ, however, is still preoccupied with what transpired. Who would suspect Abraham of altering election results! Nicole explains the officials will attend to it and then he will be the mayor. She wants to break out the bubbly but EJ the lawyer has something to add. He realizes she never stopped assuming he had won. Pause. "What did you do? How did you fix this?" She cannot believe that is what he wishes to discuss. EJ remarks that his "sweethot" managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. She wants to move forward and wait for the phone call announcing he is mayor. And she has never made love to a public servant. She caresses his chest and purrs she will even sing happy birthday once they are done. He is amused she does not want to talk about what she did, but continues to flirt shamelessly. Nicole now gets the phone call she has been waiting for. She exclaims it
is official. "You won!" He lifts her in his arms and twirls her around. It turns out they will hold it for 24 hours. He thanks her for what she has done. Nicole stops him from calling Lexie, as hubby Abe is in a great
deal of trouble. Abe and Lexie might be falling apart. EJ deduces she would then come back to the family. He regrets she is getting her heart broken in the process. Nicole assures him it will heal. He kisses her and calls himself Mr. Mayor, then kisses her again.
- In her lonely little room, Madison unhappily puts her wedding ring back on and flashes back to Brady lamenting he did not know who she was,
her replying she loved him. Knock knock! Tis Brady himself. She hugs him but he says not to. She invites him in. He demands she explain why she never told him she was married. He now sees her wedding ring and enters, wanting the whole truth. She owes him that much! Madison proceeds to tell the tale of her ill-fated romance with the mentor she came to loathe. When she first met Ian, she was a college student, trying to run Mad World from her car. One day she met him at a store, where she was giving a sales pitch to the manager. He thought she was great and invited her to lunch, dinner, breakfast, Brady shakes his head. She was seduced. Madison thinks anyone would have been. Ian took her under his wing, invested in Mad World, and made her dream come true. Brady deduces she owes him her fortune, thought not her life as she claimed. He reminds her she had said she was never in love before she met HIM. Madison states she did love Ian, though she never said he loved her! Brady seems to have lingerin  doubts. She clarifies that she was too young to realize
his charisma was not love. He drew her in the way he does with his prey. But there was a cold and controlling side to him. Brady's eyes narrow. What does she mean? She admits he was a womanizer and she was a mere trophy wife. Brady wants to know who the women were. Just conquests. Though there was one he could not let go. Brady assumes she knows who this other woman was. Indeed. Kate DiMera! Brady suddenly understands. Does Kate know about her? No, but she sure knows about her! The way he carried on about her was scandalous. And when she confronted him about it, he implied it was her fault. Brady does not  comprehend how she could be so afraid of him. Why does she cower when he is in the room? She should really change that. Madison cries
she cannot. That is just how she is when he is around. Brady becomes exasperated. That is not the woman he knows! She points out she owes Ian and when he is not around, she must remind herself to be strong. Brady is baffled. She laments when Ian is in the room, the strong woman she is with Brady just vanishes!
- Kate stops kissing Ian, then slaps him, and calls him a son of a bitch. She is married. He desires her even more since she is forbidden and
insists she feels the same. He kisses her again! She returns his kiss with equal ardor. He then stops and states he cannot give into her. She gasps he actually thinks he is playing her! He grabs her wrist when she starts
to leave and whispers he would never play her. She warns him she is no longer the same woman. She has self-respect and knows he will only play his sly seduction routine on the next pretty young thing that comes along. She is through with that scenario. He swears she is wrong, for all those other women have been nothing compared to her. He gets closer to her and murmurs it was always her and letting her go was the biggest mistake of his life!
- In the Carver bedroom, Abe implores Lexie not to leave. She is packing her clothes in a suitcase, but he assures her he did not fix the results. She snaps he already fixed the debate. He reminds her of the kind of man he
is but she bitterly states she was wrong. She feels utterly betrayed. Abe accuses her of trying to sneak out. She exclaims he was not the injured one and she did not plan to sneak out. She suspects he is about to start making promises and curses he has no idea how much he hurt her. Trust is no more than a word to him! She did not think they would have such problems again. He complains he did not want to end up in this position. However, he could not roll over for EJ. He loves this town and would do anything to protect Salem. Thus, he could not stand idly by and let EJ
gain unprecedented power. Lexie is very upset he does not seem to get
the severity of what he has done. He reasons the world is full of grey areas. Sometimes one must make sacrifices for the greater good. Lexie sighs Salem would have survived. And the biggest loss is that no one will believe in him anymore. He has changed. He disagrees and insists he is still a good man. She begs to differ. She can no longer look up to him.
He stares. Abe now receives a call from Jen. He sighs to Lexie that in the morning it will be announced that EJ won the election. He assumes there will still be an investigation. He has fences to mend and vows to make things better. Lexie wishes he would stop campaigning. He refuses to let this ruin things. She shuts her suitcase and laments their marriage the
way she believed in it does not exist. He argues they are family, for better or for worse. Right now there is a lot of worse, yet he needs her to stay. Lexie woefully shakes her head and informs him it is too late!
- Back at the mansion. EJ excitedly decides to get back to working on his acceptance speech. He owes it all to Nicole. She agrees. He takes her in his arms and wants to show her his gratitude. Nicole smiles and sends
him upstairs to get started. She will be there as soon as she makes a quick call. The almost mayor heads upstairs, leaving her alone. Nicole now sits down and looks very nervous. She evidently knows there could be a big problem ...!
