THE HEAT IS ON - Part 2

- EJ dangerously warns Will to take that back. Will refuses. EJ advises him to rememba the last time he attempted to blackmail him.A flashback of the exchange is shown. EJ now wants to know whether he will work for him or not. Before he can answer, mama Sami bursts into the room, followed by Lucas and Rafe. She is delighted and automatically assumes Justin saved the day. Will enlightens them. Justin did not pay his bail. EJ did. Lucas’ eyes narrow. He paid his bail?! They want to know why. EJ claims it was to help a young man in need. Sami promises to pay him back. Rafe suspiciously wants to know why he wanted to see him out
of jail. EJ reasons he simply does not believe the lad was guilty. Lucas suspiciously notes he fired him so why the good gesture? EJ insists he would not abandon him in his hour of need. Will suggests they owe EJ
a thank you. He is in a hurry to leave before the judge changes his mind. Sami thanks EJ, who takes his leave. Lucas holds back Rafe and asks if he is buying any of this. Rafe scoffs. Lucas wonders if EJ believing in Will’s innocence is real. Rafe drawls one would expect him to be angry, unless he knows something they don’t. He intends to look into it. Lucas now apologizes for Sami bashing Carrie. Rafe still feels that Carrie would be able to help.
- Roman is very sorry for the bad news, but he felt John and Marlena deserved to hear it from him in person. They thank him. Roman alludes to the fact that the investigation is ongoing regardless. This is hardly a done deal. Matter of fact, this case will probably chew up a few more people before the file is closed ... John hastily shuts the door after the commissioner. He drawls to a most anxious Marlena that he believes it!
- Roman soon interrupts Lucas and Rafe at the station. He wants to talk police business. Once Lucas is gone, Roman warns Rafe that he heard the mayor himself paid Will’s bail. This makes Will appear even more guilty! They discuss. Rafe is sure he is up to something, but the notion
EJ and Will would conspire together does not seem likely. Therefore,
he agrees with John and Marlena. Roman remains convinced that Will is hiding something. Rafe recalls how he went to work for EJ to punish his mother. Roman, however, got the impression that he ended up enjoying his job. Rafe reasons EJ gave him money and independence. Roman agrees. Still, there are pieces missing to this puzzle. With time, they will all be retrieved to give the whole picture …
- EJ is on his phone at the cafe, arrogantly ordering the best casket and red roses for his fatha, Stefano DiMera. He proceeds to make another phone call …
- Sami has taken Will back to her apartment and complains about Roman putting him in jail. She urges Will to stay. He is prevented from leaving when Lucas arrives. He solemnly asks Will to humor his mother and
hear her out. Sami sternly tells Will they must coordinate their stories
and make sure the police do not find out he shot EJ and that Stefano
was blackmailing him. Will gets sarcastic about her apparent lack of confidence. He turns away and answers his phone to EJ, who declares they have unfinished business.
- Marlena stares out her sunny condo window and flashes back to her confrontation with Stefano the fateful night he was presumably killed. She had warned him there would be retribution. Stefano had not taken her seriously. She had whispered she pitied and despised him. Marlena blinks back to reality. John brings sweetheart a glass of wine to help her relax and puts his strong arms around her. She laments Stefano is not gone. He is still here tormenting them in death, as he did in life. It will never end! John holds her close and takes a deep sigh.
- Sami busies herself in the kitchen, unaware that Will is talking to EJ on the phone. EJ quickly realizes Will is with his parents. He calls his earlier performance satisfactory. However, it does not end there. He will want more of the same loyalty. Will replies of course. EJ will be in touch and ends the call. Sami asks who that was. Will lies it was Sonny, calling to make sure things were alright. Sami insists everything will be fine.
- Back at the station, Roman studies the suspects board. It is tough for him to be impartial, as he is connected to all of them. Rafe offers to help. Roman suddenly decides that Rafe should take over the investigation. He would trust him and he would be doing him a big favor. Rafe is not sure, as he is also connected to the suspects. Roman reasons he has blood ties and a long history with them. He still believes that Rafe could be more impartial. Rafe is honored. This would be a big deal. Roman adds it is also the assignment from hell. He hopes he will do it. Rafe’s eyes slowly wander over the gallery of suspects and he accepts the offer to take over the investigation of Stefano DiMera’s murder.
- “Alright, I’m in!”
- Roman gives him a hawkish look. “Good.”
