Maxine assures her Rafe is fine and the guy who attacked him will be lucky to make it out of surgery. She advises her to be strong and get some rest. Gabi gets in bed. The baby cries and Maxine muses she woke up to make mommy feel better. She now hands gurgling Arianna to her mother. Gabi hopes she did not hear the gunshot. Maxine doubts it and marvels at the love she feels from her mama. It is all that matters. EJ disapprovingly observes as Sami pours out her heart to Hope about visiting Rafe, to encourage him to wake up. Then she stepped into the bathroom to get his hot head a cold cloth. She also needed aspirin for her headache and moved the gun in her bag. That was when she heard a noise. She peeked in and perceived the man with the knife. EJ tries to stop her but Sami will not be silenced! She insists she saw the light reflecting on the blade. He was going to kill Rafe so she had to shoot! Hope wonders where she got the gun. It was a present from Kate. Hope points out she was the one who loaded it and kept it in her purse. Sami repeats he would have killed Rafe, that is what he intended. Abe reappears with news. The man Sami shot is a Salem P.D. police officer. Bernardi. Sami gasps in horror. EJ reasons he must have been a dirty cop. Sami flashes back to their encounter at the town square, when she jumped him for Will’s file. Back to reality. She does not deny seeing him before. Hope points out the cop and Rafe were close. EJ loudly disagrees, insists Samantha stop talking, and announces they are going home! Abe gets a text and declares they are going nowhere! Nicole argues Kristen was the one who went berserk and attacked her. Kristen states she can explain. Brady snaps he has no desire to speak to her! Eric arrives and stares at the scene unfolding. Kristen wants to explain. Brady bitterly recalls all her lying explanations. John and Marlena watch from a distance. Brady exclaims Kristen never loved him and that was her biggest lie. She had him badly beaten, too. He warns he hates her almost as much as he hates himself. She admits she did bad things, but did fall in love with him. Brady hopes so cos that will make it harder for her now that they are over. Her eyes are red as she realizes he means it, they really are over. Kristen now walks away. Brady hopes Nicole is alright. So does Eric. Nicole suggests they go for a drink. Brady airily replies he must do something for his grandfather. Eric quietly informs Nicole that his brother is in shutdown mode. Nicole hugs Brady. Eric assures him it will get better. Brady sighs it always does and saunters off. Nicole and Eric depart. John steps out and Brady stares at him for a moment, then goes on his unhappy way. John hangs his head. Kate storms into the mansion. The phoenix was expecting her. She calls him a son of a bitch, her eyes flashing with rage. Nicole and Eric are back at the rectory. She is worried about Brady. Eric notices and wonders how involved she plans on getting in his life. Nicole does not acknowledge the question. She bids him goodnight and waltzes out. The tormented man of God stares. John catches up with Brady at the town square and wants to talk. Brady bitterly states he is ready for that talk! Marlena catches up with Kristen and insists she has something to say to her that will not wait! Kristen smiles a crooked smile. Kate rages at Stefano to think long and hard the next time he wants to kill Rafe. If he tries again, he might as well off her too cos she will make sure he ends up dead and stays that way for good! Exit Kate. Stefano sighs tsk tsk tsk and tries to enjoy his drink. Back at the hospital, EJ is indignant about the police harassment. Sami screams Bernardi had a knife and was going to stab Rafe. That is why she shot him! Abe now drops a bombshell. No knife or any other weapon was found. Hope slowly shakes her head. EJ bites his lip. Sami gasps ... She is in big trouble!
