PRELUDE TO A CHRISTMAS - Part 2 Eric calls Father Ryan a great man, one who did great things and sacrificed his life for the girl Nema. Nicole asks what happened to her. She was traumatized and decided she wanted nothing to do with Eric or photography. Nicole is sympathetic. Eric gasps he was a coward. Nicole disagrees and insists he is a good man. Eric exclaims but he is not a man who stands up without fear. He is here trying to fill Father Ryan’s shoes but he is not one tenth of what he was. How it torments him! Nicole feels his pain yet insists he is not as bad as he believes. At the town square, Rafe is on his phone giving a description of the elusive laughing penguin but has no luck. He places the next call. Caroline discreetly gets back to work as EJ greets her and Samantha. Sami perceives he is upset. He laments he was at sister Lexie’s grave and might not be good company. Sami realizes it must be harder during the holidays and offers to provide some holiday spirit. She brings out Sydney and Johnny. EJ holds them tight and his face lights up like a Christmas tree. At the hospital, Kayla asks lonely Abe about his Christmas Eve plans. She knows Eric will be giving a midnight mass. Abe plans to drive to Chicago to visit Celeste with Theo. Kayla hopes he will be back for Christmas day. Indeed. She has something in mind and teases they shall see! Dapper Abe is intrigued. New Cam enters the coffee house and Chad is glad to see him. He was thinking of him as he just visited Lexie’s grave. He hopes they can get to know each other. Cam agrees and would also like to learn more about his late sister. They shake on it. Nicole insists to Eric that Father Ryan had already stepped in so there was nothing he could have done. Eric is a good man, She goes on to suggest perhaps this happened for a reason. Perhaps he was brought here as there is something he can do that Father Ryan could not have. Eric cries and thanks her for listening, but asks to be left alone. Nicole quietly leaves. Eric raises his eyes to the heavens, then glances back at Nicole one more time. He proceeds to study his notes for the midnight mass. Father Tobias enters and wonders if things are alright. Eric replies that they just might be … Nicole runs into Sister Annabelle at the town square collection box. She makes a donation and asks how things are going. Times are tough but everyone wants to help those in need. Nicole looks up to the heavens and smiles Amen to that. EJ sits and reads a Christmas story to the kids. Caroline then takes them into the kitchen for cookies. EJ thanks Sami. She explains to him the kids are always happy to spend time with him. She wishes EJ a Merry Christmas and impulsively hugs him. The kids race back wanting another story. EJ gets to it. Sami smiles at the scene and leans over, her arms draped around EJ and Johnny. Just then Rafe arrives with the penguin for Sydney. He surveys the family moment from the outside window and wistfully turns away ... END |
