WAITING TO EXHALE  - Part 2

Dan grins Parker turned two last month and asks if Kate got to see
him. Indeed and he is running, climbing. He is a super curious boy!
Dan enjoys hearing all about it. Nurse Maxine now hands him his next week’s surgery schedule. Kate had no idea he was back to operating. Maxine goes on to praise the medicine man for saving Jennifer Horton’s life . He explains the tremors are gone. Kate notes Jen must be grateful. He grins she was the one who told him about the tremor treatment and alludes to them being pals. Kate suspects he still cares for the fair widow and recalls she once told him Jen would never get over Jack. It was a while ago, but she thinks she was right. Dan does not deny it.

Jen finally admits she does love Daniel and never stopped caring about him. Abigail wisely advises her to stop fighting the feeling. Jen, however, laments she feels she would be betraying Jack’s memory. She picks up his picture and hugs it. Abigail takes the picture away and assures her mother that everyone knows she loved him. Jen muses sometimes she feels as if he is away on a long trip and will return eventually. Abigail is sure he would not want her to stop living so if she cares about Daniel,
she should let him know! Jen is concerned about how that would make her feel. Abigail refers to him as a good guy. But the real question is -
is her mother prepared to move on?

Gabi giggles outside the pub as Nick hands her a big cup of hot cocoa sprinkled with mini marshmellows. The attentive fiancé hopes she is not cold and wonders if she should even be outside. She smiles she just wanted some air. He places his arm around her and asks why she told them her due date. She sighs they asked questions and she messed up
but Nick thinks it was a blessing. Now they will not need to lie when the baby is born. Gabi agrees but admits she feared he would tell them about Will. He is most amused, then informs her he is sorry about Rafe. She is just relieved he did not take a swing. Nick boasts he would take another punch for her any day. Gabi just wishes Rafe had not given her such a judgmental, disapproving look.

Will is studying at the town square. Rafe finally finds him and would
like to chat about the day he took his sister to the abortion clinic. He drawls he has spoken to Gabi and Nick and he knows the real story!
Will stares in silence, believing this to be the big moment of truth, the showdown with the angry macho cop brother. He shuts his binder and considers his words before daring to speak. Rafe has taken a seat across the table. “Okay,” sighs Will. “You must be angry.” Rafe says obviously. Will explains no one planned for it to happen and it was foolish not to think about the consequences. Rafe thinks Gabi should have used better judgment in her choice of man. Will replies the guy does care about her. Rafe wonders how well he knows his cousin. Will is perplexed. “What?” Exasperated Rafe points out NICK was a mere teenager when he last
saw him, then after four years, he was released from prison, got Gabi pregnant, and now the two are getting married! Will agrees it was ... unfortunate and intense. Rafe asks if he knew she was in trouble. Will is certain Gabi and Nick getting together had nothing to do with Gabi being troubled. Gabi truly loves Nick. Rafe notes she was vulnerable and alone when Nick arrived on the scene. He insecurely wonders if Gabi asked Will to accompany her to the abortion clinic as she feared her big brother Rafe would be disappointed in her. The very idea seems to torment him.

At the busy, fast paced coffee house, Sonny gives Sami her cappuccino. She updates him on the busy wedding she is planning and smiles Will shall be the best man. She has a long to do list, then excitedly asks him
to be an usher for his friends. How does that sound? “HELL NO!” exclaims Sonny in disgust.  Sami thinks that was rather blunt. Sonny clears away dishes and apologizes but weddings are not his thing. He
goes on to suggest that he and Gabi and Nick are not close, which is
why they did not ask him to participate in the ceremony. Sami insists
they would have but they are busy. Sonny notes he is busy too and feels it is best this way. Sami senses his irritation.

Kate is sincerely sorry for Dan as she too recently had her heart broken. She followed her Stefano to Europe, had it out with him, but now the marriage is over. Dan is surprised by her candor and sorry for her pain. Kate now decides she must get to work. Dan breathes thank you for telling him about Parker. Sympathetic Kate fishes in her handbag for a moment, and hands him Parker’s picture. “Merry Christmas” and then she is gone. Dan blinks and proceeds to admire it.

Jen is seated in an armchair by the fireplace alone, flipping through a family photo album. Good times. Jack and Jen at their wedding, all Jack and Jen all the time. She sniffles, keeps turning pages, and takes a deep breath, having decided what she must do. She places a finger to her lips and then touches Jack’s photograph as the final gesture. She stands up and returns the photo album to its drawer. “Abigail, I’m going out!”
Jack's framed photograph seems to smile at her.

Gabi pauses outside the pub and wonders if people will stop asking
them questions so they can finally stop lying. Nick reminds her they
still have Pre-Cana sessions to attend (Catholic premarital consultation). She laments they will have to lie to a priest. And to God at the wedding! Nick promises he loves her and the baby and that is no lie. She loves
him too. He vows things will get better and kisses her.

Rafe continues to torment himself. He wonders if Gabi only wanted an abortion as she feared how he would react. Will says no. He points out that sometimes it is easier to approach a friend for certain things. Rafe considers, then thanks him. He was wrong to give him a hard time for taking Gabi to the clinic. Matter of fact, he is grateful she has a friend in Will.

Jen rushes up to Dan at the hospital just as he places the photograph of Parker in his shirt pocket. The medicine man cannot conceal his surprise. He had assumed she was already released. Jen gushes she was indeed and dramatically declares she had to come back and see him! Dan peers at her, waiting ...
