AGAINST ALL ODDS PART 1 - At the pub, Rafe cannot believe Austin has the nerve to want to stay at the loft after he got him fired. Austin sighs they have been over this. He takes Sami's hands and laments it is all his fault. He cannot even get his room back anymore! The only available place left is at a dive of a hotel miles away. Rafe suggests he stay at DiMera mansion with Kate. Austin retorts he will not stay with Stefano DiMera or expect Carrie to. Sami would like a moment with Rafe. Austin steps away. Rafe is most annoyed she wants Austin to stay with them, convinced he is responsible for having him fired. Sami believes Austin is innocent. And he is Carrie's husband, which makes him family. Rafe shakes his head. Sami eventually wears him down. He points out he is only agreeing cos he loves her so much. - Abe and Lexie have been out shopping at the town square, as Theo has an overnight with a friend. Lexie smiles Abe is an amazing dad and then talks Halloween night. How about dinner with the family? Abe explains he will not be able to, given his busy schedule at present. He glances over and spies EJ at the outdoor cafe. Abe declares he will be able to go head to head with her brother. He has a plan and he will let Lexie know more about it soon. Lexie is looking forward to it. He kisses her, and goes off to a meeting. EJ calls after Lexie as she walks by, trying to ignore him. She gives him the cold shoulder. EJ insists they are family and would like to talk. She is haughty and defiant. He reminds her that he is her brother, then states he requires her advice, as a parent. It concerns Johnny and Sydney. Lexie pauses and then agrees to a conversation. EJ proudly shows her photographs of Sydney and Johnny the night of the dedication. They looked happy. He now feels giving up his kids was a mistake. They need him. Lexie is sure they do and notes Johnny is starting to look like him. EJ grins he looks good and remarks Syd is beautiful. They mean the world to him and he wants to change the DiMera name all for them. Lexie realizes he is curious how the name has affected Theo. She opens up. It has not been easy, though they have dealt with it as a family. EJ has another question. He was considering inviting Syd and Johnny to the mansion for trick or treating. Lexie points out it will be a long day, with parties at school and with friends. She suggests he ask Sami what else he could do for them. EJ thanks her and places his hand on hers. He gets back to the topic of Halloween. - At the Kiriakis mansion, Sonny is looking at the website and admits to Chad that they could have some big problems. It appears someone is posting gambling odds on the school website, which is against the law. Chad is nervous about it. Sonny reasons they should just make sure it does not go any further. The two decide to get something to eat. They walk away from the computer, which is left open, revealing a post by GOTGAME48 claiming 'Badgers are simply overmatched against the unstoppable ___eyes - who have the best defense in the conference, 1 to ...' - Even though it is technically Jack's day, Dan boldly drops by Jen's for an impromptu visit. He misses her. She misses him too. She invites him in. Dan drawls he should play by the ground rules. Jen whispers that it is alright, as her date with Jack is already over. Enter Dan. She is glad he stopped by. He asks about her date with Jack, then babbles to forget he said that. Jen thinks there is no need to discuss it. Dan is frazzled. The two of them used to spend a lot of time together and he misses that. So does she. Dan sighs this situation is hard. Jen is still not sure how she feels. Dan now seems to regret his idea. He would like to know what her answer to his question of living with him would have been if Jack had not come back. Jen is not sure what to say. Dan puts his arms around her and murmurs they should have been together ... Jen agrees he is right but then Jack came back. She does not wish to live in what ifs. What if Jack had never left? Dan drawls he loves her and cannot bear the thought of losing her. Ding dong! Tis Mayor Abe. He would like to talk to Jen about something important. - At the loft, Sami offers to set up Austin in the guest bedroom but he would rather crash casually on the sofa. Rafe notes he will be busy working anyway. Austin thanks Sami and goes to take a shower. Sami hopes the tension between Austin and Rafe will ease up. Rafe feels like he let her down by losing his job. So much for ballet and karate for the kids. And they were proud their dad was a cop. What will he be able to tell them now? Sami assures him that his job does not define him. Rafe laments all he knows is how to be a detective. She suggests he start a detective agency. With what money? To make matters worse, the job market in Salem is lousy. He refers to Sami as a mogul. At least she is doing well. Sami gives him a pep talk and points out the kids will just think he is between assignments. Rafe becomes more upbeat, as he will be able to spend time with the kids. There is a silver lining.They start to kiss. Austin walks out in his bathrobe. Sami and Rafe are ready to go to bed. They bid him goodnight and walk to their room. - Back at Horton house, Dan thinks he should make himself scarce, but Mayor Abe does not mind him staying to hear what he wants to ask Jen. The mayor explains EJ has Nicole doing his PR, and he needs someone to do his PR as well. It would have to be someone who has good media contacts like Jen! Will she do it? Jen stammers she is not sure. Abe urges her to say yes and help him. She smiles. Abe wonders whether she has any questions. Jen admits she has been thinking of a new career and his offer sounds exciting. Abe believes she would be an asset, and mentions her poise. Dan agrees. Abe asks if she is on board ... - Back at the café, Lexie and EJ seem to be having a nice time. She gets testy when he reminds her of a debate, but he claims it is only because it falls on her anniversary. He thinks Abe should therefore change the date. Lexie is suspicious. EJ explains he does not want to risk his relationship with her. Lexie retorts he can avoid doing that by dropping out of the race! He drawls he cannot do that and snaps he would never ask her husband to drop out. Does she fear he cannot win a fair race? Lexie starts to yell that he has not been playing fair and lists his offenses. EJ replies "How dare you!" Lexie goes on to wonder if he even set John up. Chad and Sonny have arrived and observe the heated exchange. Chad now approaches and makes a snide remark about not wanting to be part of such a family. Lexie stops. She is sorry he saw that. Chad retorts they are always at each other's throats. EJ is also sorry and extends his hand. Chad does not take it and gets back to their discord. Lexie insists she made an effort as EJ her brother reached out to her. She puts her arm around EJ, who smiles. Lexie asks the guys to join them. Chad leers he and Sonny would rather get a bite to eat on their own. EJ asks how it is going with the website. Chad demands to know how far EJ would go to make sure his site was a DiMera success, and gives him the evil eye ... Read Part 2 - click here! |
