TRAPPED!

PART 1

- Jack arrives to pick up Jen for cross country skiing. She pouts in her pink jacket and huffs she has second thoughts about their day together. He is flabbergasted when she demands he come clean about the stunt he pulled on Halloween. Jack explains he was in London, but Jen accuses him of spying on herself and Daniel! He can fess up or get out! He does not understand. She insists he was following her and Daniel at the party with a mask on. She even confronted him and he said nothing! Jack exclaims she never saw the face or heard the voice. It was not him! He was in London with their son. She wants him to prove it. He wants to know why. She calls him crazy and jealous. Jack sighs and sits beside
her. He tries to explain he is attempting to win back the love of his life after being stuck in an Afghan cave. Why would he blow it by following her and Dr. Goldilocks  around in a mask? The evidence is flimsy. Jen is sorry but she cannot imagine who else would have followed her around
in a mask. He is amused it does sound like something he would have
done in the old days. He now asks for an update on her job offer from Abe. Jen informs him she accepted the job. Jack is thrilled and wants to know HOW Dan changed her mind when his name comes up. Jen tells him all about it.  Jack forces a smile and calls the doc a hell of a guy. The old Jack would have been petty and said he was trying to get points with her ... Jen stops him and reminds him this is the new him. Jack agrees
and they depart together. The snow awaits!
- At the townhouse, Marlena yearns to know what is troubling John. She had assumed it was Sami.  Knock knock knock! She opens the door to Roman. He wonders if this is a bad time. He swears he is there in an unofficial capacity, to see how they are holding up. Marlena laments that there are good days and bad days. John goes to get some coffee. Marlena admits John has been getting stir crazy. They discuss how both Brady
and Sami have not been coming around. Marlena thinks it is just as well Sami does not come, as she would have trouble hiding her feelings and that is the last thing her husband would need. John returns and drawls all that matters is the truth.
- Carrie and Sami keep bumping into each other at the loft kitchen. Austin is trying to adjust the heating as Rafe suggests he simply sleep with more clothes on! Carrie sits with Austin on the sofa and whispers it is crowded. They should try to get a place harder. Austin reads his paper and retorts the only possibility is to move in with his mom. Sami thinks they should all have a talk about the real reason they are anxious to leave. Carrie uncomfortably states she and Austin do not want to cause trouble for her and Rafe. They have all left the past in the past and have been getting along. She just wants that to continue. Her phone rings and she notes she has a meeting downtown. Austin offers her a lift. Sami is surprised that is the end of this discussion. She hopes Carrie and Austin will be able to
find a good place and is visibly relieved. Carrie tells Rafe she will see him at John and Marlena's later. She will explain to Austin on the way. They exit and Sami wants an explanation from Rafe, who drops a bomb. Carrie hired him to be the key investigator on John's case. Sami sticks out her chin.
- Once they get to the station, Austin is curious why Carrie has arranged to meet Rafe at the townhouse. She informs him she hired him as lead investigator. He is bitter she did not tell him earlier. She remarks he is working for the prosecution.  Austin points out Rafe would not have lost his job if only he had followed the chain of command. Carrie, however,  would rather not argue every detail. Austin makes a comment about her saving the best for the courtroom, then apologizes. But her sister Sami,
he suspects, will have something to say about this!
- At the pub, Sami hears out Rafe's explanation of why he took the job. She reminds him Carrie is doing this case pro bono. Rafe enlightens her
that Carrie's law firm will be paying him. Sami grimaces.
- Jack and Jen enter the pub and Caroline lets them know their order is ready. Caroline thanks Jack for making the cookies for the kids. Jack and Jen now say hello to Rafe and Sami, who congratulate Jen on her new job. Jen gushes she would love to hear about Sami's job at the cosmetics company. She is happy to learn Sami has free samples and they head off so she can show her. Pleasant Jack sits down and Rafe brings up his Afghan adventure. He had a similar experience in South America. He mentions how counseling helps one get one's bearings back. Jack quips why would he need something like that!
- Back at the townhouse, Roman assures John that there are many in his corner. He is sorry he had to let Rafe go. John understands he was just doing his job. Exit concerned Roman. John sighs. Marlena implores him
to let her help. He does not believe she can. If there are things he cannot remember, then he is not fully healed in his mind. Marlena knows. He takes her face in his hands and emotionally tells her that sections of his
life remain a mystery, despite her unyielding faith. He has been so many things - an art thief, priest, soldier for hire. "I could be just about anyone except me!" He has known it all along and if he is not sure of who he is now, how can he be so damn sure he is innocent? Marlena gives him a sympathetic look. She feels his pain.
- Back at the station, Austin reminds Carrie that Sami's feelings must
be taken into account. And Rafe has already lost one job helping her. He should be looking for a more permanent job. Carrie points out he is still trying to prove John is innocent and that is a noble thing. Austin reminds her Sami does not think John is innocent but Carrie believes once she hears her in court, she will change her mind.
- Back at the pub, Rafe solemnly shares his experiences with Jack. When he worked for the FBI, he debriefed a number of former hostages, many of whom had long-term effects. Jack acts flippant. Rafe remarks that being freed does not make one as free as one might think. Jack plans to focus on the future. Jen and Sami come back. Caroline mentions all the snow on the way. Jen walks out with the bags and wonders what Jack
and Rafe were talking about. He airily states they were just shooting the breeze and they go back to the car. Rafe stares after them from the window, his eyes filled with concern. He senses all is not well with Jack Devereaux ... Sami wonders what Rafe is looking at. He retorts he might just be overreacting, as he would rather not discuss. Sami puts on her
coat and starts to leave. The truth is she has some things to say to him, yet does not want to have a fight in the presence of her grandmother.
- Meanwhile, Carrie and Austin are dismayed that they keep fighting over the case. He emotionally tells her how much he missed her. She missed him too. Austin thinks that they should not talk about the case anymore. Roman saunters in and agrees that is a great suggestion!
- The unexpected blizzard has made Jack and Jen get off the road. They wind up in a deserted cabin and she turns on the radio. Several roads
have been closed and the blizzard is at its worst exactly where they are! Jen gasps they will be there for a long time. Jack stares strangely ...
