GIVING THANKS - OR NOT!

PART 1

- Mel, Maggie, and Dan are in her comfy old kitchen with Victor, who grumbles they cannot be at the mansion where he has the best stove and servants. Maggie insists her pies can get the perfect crust here. Besides, she wants to make her first new family Thanksgiving meal in her kitchen. Family hug! Victor grins she makes him a better man. She ushers him
out to the car to help with the groceries. Mel asks how Dan really is. He assures her he is glad to be with Maggie, but he does have Jen on his mind. He regrets telling her they needed a break and suspects she is with Jack as they speak. He changes the subject to Dario no longer being in
the picture for his daughter. Has she since met someone? Mel giggles she
is too busy, then frowns and flashes back to kissing Chad. She stammers she does have a crush, though she thinks it is not meant to be. Dan wants to know who. She would rather not say!
- Abe, Lexie, Abigail, Jen, and Jack are at the pub packing food for the homeless. Jen wants Jack to focus on working. Abigail literally bumps
into Austin and smiles as she returns his hat. He tells her to keep it and offers to help. The teen asks if wife Carrie will be coming. Austin, who clearly has no idea the girl has a crush on him, admits the hearing could take a while so he doubts Carrie will be able to make it. Chad arrives
with bags and Abigail greets him. Jack stares.Jen suggests he stop staring. Jack implies the boy is a "hormonal troublemaker."
- John is doing situps in his cell. Marlena and Carrie arrive with his dry- cleaned clothes. Carrie notes it is almost time and gives them a moment alone. John tenderly touches Marlena's face and she tries to be strong.
As he buttons his shirt, straightens his tie, he thanks the now returned Carrie for everything she has done. He and Marlena hope that all is well between Carrie and Austin. Carrie thinks things are fine. Marlena is glad, for a great marriage ought to be cherished. Carrie explains she will see
them in the judge's chambers and departs. John and Marlena hold hands through the bars. She laments she cannot bear the thought of being away from him much longer. She is hoping for leniency. John drawls they need to take one day at a time. One never knows ...
- At the mansion, Stefano is surprised Hope is seeking an audience with him and jokes she must be inviting him and Katherine to Thanksgiving. Hope is in no mood for jokes. She whips out the paperweight and asks if it looks familiar. "Hm," quips the phoenix, European style. He takes it in his hand and drawls it is heavier than it looks. Hope demands to know why he gave it to her grandmother. She found it in her attic with other items. The phoenix is curious about those other items. Hope retorts she was counting on it! She knows he gave Alice that paperweight. He plays innocent. Hope wonders what he is hiding. He claims she is wasting his time. Maybe John Black stashed his stolen money in Switzerland. Hope wonders if he means like a Swiss bank account. Stefano is ready to walk out. Hope demands he tell her exactly why he gave her grandmother that paperweight. He admits he did indeed give it to her and chuckles she is determined and relentless. Perhaps she could work for him. "When hell freezes over!" snaps Hope. She wants all the details. Stefano explains his company used to send out those paperweights as gifts. They must have sent Alice one for doing something charitable, who knows what. Hope reminds him it is engraved with his seal and a phrase about their bond.
It had to be more than what he claims ...
- At Maggie's, she has her new husband Victor Kiriakis helping out in the kitchen. He grudgingly obliges as she will not put up with any nonsense! The Greek tycoon petulantly peels apples. Dan laughs. Maggie graciously continues to share her famous pie recipe with Mel, who has flour on her little face and hugs her. Dan joins in. Maggie smiles she never dreamed she would have a new son and granddaughter to treat with her holiday cooking. Dan suddenly smells the cranberry relish cooking on the stove and is amazed it is the same his mother used to make. The redhead
admits Victor found her old recipe book and this was marked as Danny's favorite. Dan is overwhelmed and hugs her again. Maggie has tears in
her eyes. She praises Lillian for having been a wonderful mother. Dan only wishes Lillian had told him the truth. Maggie feels she was trying to protect him. He wonders from what. He becomes concerned when she massages her hands and asks about her myasthenia gravis. She is fine, thanks to the medicine he prescribed. However, she thinks he and Mel should both be tested for it, given they are related to her.
- At the pub, the mood is light as the gang pack boxes for the homeless. Jack and Austin jokingly talk football. Austin tries to bring Chad into the discussion. Jack makes a snide remark about Chad's DiMeraness. Abigail is not happy about it. Meanwhile, Abe sighs to Jen that John would need
a Thanksgiving miracle. Abigail asks Austin to help her carry a box out, for Chad has something he has to do. She exits with Austin. Chad now approaches Jack and informs him he truly cares about his daughter. He understands Jack has issues with his family. So does he for that matter. He swears he will not be like the rest of his family. He intends to treat Abigail like she deserves to be treated. Jack agrees to let him date her.
But no massages in the living room. He glances at Jen and mentions not wasting time. A sudden ringing of his phone leads him to go outside ...
- At John's sentencing hearing, lawyer Carrie has just made her argument about why her client deserves leniency. The judge wonders if John has anything to say. John apparently does not. Carrie asks for a moment
alone with her client. The judge exits for a moment, warning that when she returns, she will proceed with the sentencing, whether he has spoken or not ...
- PR Jen tells Mayor Abe and first lady Lexie about this charity work being a good thing for the press to see, then spies Jack outside on his phone. She walks out and confronts him when she hears him discussing
a job he has promised to think about. Another dangerous assignment
after what happened the last time?! Jack stammers he can explain ...
