SHOCK AND AWE!

PART 1

- As Jen reads the newspaper headlines about John's trial starting today, Bo and Hope arrive at the house. Jen would like to help Hope go through everything, as it will be a good distraction. Bo gives them their space and departs to get to work. Hope laments the media is stirring up much anger against poor John. Even a guilty verdict will not be enough for some!
Jen brings boxes for Hope to look at. Hope wishes to uncover whatever  someone might have been holding over Alice's head. Ominous music is heard. They search through papers and Hope wonders how many secrets Alice could have had. She appreciates Jen's help. Jen admits it is a good distraction for her at the moment. She pours her guest tea and updates
her on what happened on her day with Jack. He is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. He was so vulnerable when he had those crazy flashbacks.
- In the hotel room, Austin watches a TV report about the rage against John Black. A mob has gathered. He turns off the TV when elegant
Carrie emerges in her dress, ready for her day in court. He is worried
but she assures him she will be fine.
- EJ is at the mansion, informing Stefano he is on his way to make a statement in front of the courthouse. Stefano is pleased. EJ decides to focus not on his candidacy for mayor, but rather his litigation, to make him appear a common man who wants justice to prevail. They both are amused that John is fighting for his life, while EJ can play the champion. Stefano calls him a lucky man but EJ grins luck had nothing to do with it.
- At the loft, Sami busies herself with laundry, though she has the family gathering on her mind. She feels pressured by Roman, who is arranging
it. Rafe notes it is her decision but it could be her last chance with John.
- Roman hawkishly glances outside the pub window, then escorts John and Marlena inside. There is a light police presence outside, as they do
not wish to call attention. John is still tense. Marlena vows they will get through this difficult time together. Meanwhile, a masked man is listening to their conversation and opens a case, revealing an unassembled weapon. He expertly puts the semi-automatic rifle together.
- Back at the pub, Caroline, Roman, and Carrie are present. Caroline encourages John to give them hell in court. Marlena pulls John aside and gives him a pep talk. He remains unconvinced of his innocence, it seems. Will, Rafe, the kids and Sami arrive. John is elated to see the kids. They have a card they made for John, who soon has Ally and Johnny on his lap. He stands up, approaches Sami, and happily thanks her for coming. Sami gets choked up and they embrace. Marlena watches with tears in
her eyes. John teases the feisty kids remind him of Sami. Rafe picks up Sydney when she runs to the door. Carrie is glad Rafe is there, as he has lifted John's spirits. Rafe drawls it is all about family and takes the tyke
to see grandma in the kitchen. Marlena thanks Sami for coming. Sami smiles it is all about family. Marlena agrees and puts an arm around her. But the gunman still prepares.
- At the station, Austin is stressed. Bo notices and helps him pick up his files. Austin is preoccupied with the potentially dangerous situation Carrie could be in. Bo realizes he is worried about her making it through the crowd. Austin fears there could be a maniac but Bo assures him the FBI have security for the trial covered. Austin wonders how he deals with Hope being in danger on the job all the time. Bo explains he never takes her for granted. "I cherish every moment I have with her." After all, he can never be entirely sure she will be coming back. Later, Austin informs Bo that Billie is elated to be with Chelsea and Max in London. Bo stares at the computer and replies Chelsea said the same in an email and she would like them to visit. Bo now points out that Austin has put together
a detailed but damning timeline of the John Black case. He wonders if he could do the same for the Alice papers - put together a timeline based on the facts.
- At the pub, the kids run around. Caroline is glad to see all is well. She just wanted the family to enjoy themselves. Roman praises Sami for coming and not letting her mom down. Will tells John about his busy biz and academics. Marlena now sits with Will and tells him she misses him. She will always make time for him. She wonders how his Gabi girl is.
Will diverts his gaze and explains she has a test today, though things are fine. John is helping Johnny with his baseball swing, using a roll of paper towel in lieu of a bat. The tyke is pumped. The gunman stands across the street. The gang watch as Johnny invites John to his first t-ball game this year. John declares he would not miss it for the world. They practice yet another swing near the window. The gunman starts to take aim.
- Jen confesses to Hope that she has not made her choice yet. Jack is in pain, but things are tough for Daniel, too, as he just found out Maggie is his real mother. She yearns to be there for him too, but he is working today. As per Maggie's suggestion, she plans to take one day at a time. They decide to get back to work. Jen now notices the baby picture.
There is something familiar about it, but it is not Daniel. Hope sighs she wishes gran were there. They both do.
- EJ finishes reading his speech to Stefano, condemning John for stealing people's savings. The phoenix applauds and chuckles the crowd might take John Black to the guillotine. He happily recalls a TV segment about how the powerful have fallen. That smug John Black is on the brink of total RRRRRRRRUIN! And the family will be disgraced. "Shunned," agrees Elvis. "Ostracized!" Stefano smokes a cigar and notes the irony
in the fact that his hands in the matter are clean. EJ adds one of them
can say that. Stefano clamps his hand on his son's shoulder with pride. "You did it!" EJ agrees. "Oui, c'est moi!" (yes, it's me) The phoenix put his son to the test and EJ exceeded his every expectation. He has done
his bidding and passed the true DiMera test. EJ insists he will not stop until he has taken office and the DiMeras have real power! He assures fatha he has covered all his tracks and tells him how. He got John's
phone to transfer the money, bribed the Swiss, and also paid their FBI plant to manipulate the evidence. He lights his own cigar. Stefano thinks
it is a shame he will never be able to take credit for what he has done to John himself. EJ states all that matters is Giovanni. He has done this to pass on a POWERFUL albeit seemingly legitimate family name to him.
- At the pub, Roman is ready. He updates John and Marlena how they will get them out after a decoy car goes first. John refuses to let Marlena accompany him. She insists she wants to support him but he would never forgive himself if something happened to her. She refuses to back down. John lets Roman know he will only put on the bulletproof vest when
the kids cannot see him. He high fives Johnny and thanks Caroline. He emotionally admits to Sami that having her and the kids with him this morning has meant everything to him. They embrace. The gunman aims and fires a shot that shatters the window. He is just getting started ...
