Kate has her arms around him and he likes it. He kisses her instead of paying attention to the call. A phone is shown with Stefano as the caller. It is actually Kate’s phone and Rafe lets her answer now. Kate prettily pauses in her purple slip when she looks at the phone. Rafe asks what is the matter. She does not take the call. He reminds her he is FBI. She muses ex-FBI. Perhaps but he can read people. Sooooooo. He takes the phone from her hand and sighs while reading Stefano’s ominous text to his once beloved. "I’m back in town. Thought you should know." Of course it is no innocent text. They are well aware that with the phoenix, it is always personal. Tough guy Rafe offers to talk to her ex. Kate is touched but thinks it would be a bad idea. Rafe drawls he was trying to rattle her with the text. She claims she is not rattled. Rafe now wonders. She assures him her love for the phoenix has been replaced by shame. They both agree it is better to have loved and lost. Kate points out Stefano had blackmailed her into the marriage. It may have even been the Stockholm syndrome that followed, her falling in love with her captor. Rafe teases he can make her his prisoner too. She gazes at him and notes she is happier with him in her life, touching his cheek. Now it is time to go to work. Rafe heads to the shower. Kate gets a strange look in her eye and makes a phone call to the phoenix. - Sami flounces around the mansion and stares at the portrait of one Stefano DiMera, the godfather of Salem. What would he say about her moving in? Lo and behold, there stands suited Stefano in the flesh, having just returned. He greets her with great enthusiasm and heartily welcomes her to her new home. Even William would be welcome! She is part of the familia. EJ saunters in, clad in a casual purple sweater. He acts pleased to see fatha. The phoenix gushes about Samantha waiting for him. EJ talks breakfast. Papa phoenix discreetly gives EJ and his "future bride" their space. When he walks out, Sami wonders about the engagement remark. EJ looks outside and suggests fatha was being hopeful. Sami felt he acted like she had no choice. And it creeps her out that Stefano is being so nice. EJ points out it is only when one crosses him that one must be cautious. He promises to keep her safe always. She smiles up at him. He kisses her. She remains concerned about Stefano for EJ as well but he drawls she is all he wants and roguishly carries her upstairs to the bedroom, where things get hot fast ... - Abigail remembers what she saw of Cam giving the thug money and sends him a text. He is in bed and her text asks if he is running late! He calls her and assures her he did not forget their breakfast date and is looking forward to it. He then shoves his cash and a GUN in his safety deposit box and puts it away. He gets dressed and arrives at Horton house late, with an apology and a bouquet of flowers. She muses they have plenty of time and are all alone. He calls her beautiful and she smiles. - Sonny has a cup of coffee for Will outside. He wanted to spend a little time with him before work. Will thanks him and worriedly wonders about his grazed hand. Sonny says he banged it, then admits it was on Nick! Will is surprised. Nick took a swing? Sonny admits he threw the first punch. Will wants to know what he said. He called him the F word (rhymes with Gag). Will already knows the guy is an ignorant homophobe but he is disgusted about the ignorant insult. Sonny suggests they let the world see him for what he is. Will would love to tell everyone, especially Gabi, but then Nick would run to the police and destroy Lucas as well as Hope. He thinks Sonny should have hit him harder. Sonny quips there always a next time. Will is troubled that the hate monger will be raising his little girl, filling her innocent head with of all kinds of ignorant nonsense. It troubles him greatly, in fact. - Shirtless Nick wakes up to Gabi, who is already up and dressed. She has been thinking about what Will said, that she does not really know him. He insists she does but she says no, Will was right! There is much she does not know about him. She needs to know more, says the mother-to-be. Like what? Like what happened to him in prison! Nick stares. And then he begins. There were different laws in prison and he broke one. It cost another inmate three years extra and it almost cost him his life. He had not realized that there are things that happen in there that are just … He flashes back to screaming please noooooo. Gabi implores him to tell her what happened. Nick gasps there are things about life on the inside one must forget. There is a hierarchy with the other inmates and he had to play all the angles, make the right alliances. He flashes back to cowering in the corner, his face badly beaten. His cellmate asked his name. He also threatened to kill him for ratting him out. Nick assured him he only talked to the guards when they asked about the fight in the yard. Vargas leered he should now understand how things worked around there. He heard he was a genius, then pointed out he needed a protector. He would owe him for his protection, though. Back to reality. Gabi asks how he survived for four years. Nick now remembers opening a book that was filled with pills. Gabi implores him to tell her what he did. He numbly states that many in prison use drugs to escape and cope. But he did not. Statesville is run like a town, with prisoners working in different departments. He found a way to work the system to his advantage and traded for protection. Gabi wonders if he was an informant. No. He found out the hard way how dangerous it was to rat someone out. The stabbing had only been a warning. Gabi is sorry he went through it and embraces him. Nick emotionally announces she is the reason he is still here. When he met her, everything came together better than ever. He thanks her and they tearfully hug. "Thank you, Gabi, for saving my life, for giving me the family I’ve always wanted." - At the coffee house, Sonny is with Adrienne, who bears a surprise gift bag for Will’s baby girl. Sonny exclaims she cannot give that to him. Meanwhile Will is trying to study for a test outside, then slams the book shut and takes out his baby’s picture.
