Witness for the Prosecution!

- In the courtroom handcuffed Sami waits and wonders.
- Abe visits Dr. Kayla in her office. This is off the record and it is about Sami! He asks about Bernardi’s state. Apparently he took a turn for the worse after the surgery, which had seemed to be a success. Kayla felt he could have made it. Abe suspiciously asks about the autopsy report, the fact that it listed the cause of death as excessive internal bleeding. It all sounded rather vague. Kayla is intrigued. She offers to pull the report
and promises to keep her silence. Abe’s phone rings and he sighs he has been summoned to the court. Exit the commissioner. Kayla now calls for someone to quietly and carefully pull the Bernardi record. Discretion is a must!
- Chad and Abigail are outside the pub. He points out the coffee house demolition begins today. She pleasantly explains she has somewhere she must take him anyway.
- Kate runs into laughing Stefano and his ladylove outside. She wonders what there is to laugh about given what a joke he already is! The friendly phoenix puffs on his cigar and taunts her about her bitter state. He introduces his devoted lady friend again. Kate wonders if she is happy they now have to fly coach and slum it. Stefano chuckles they are here so he can smoke a cigar. She takes it away from him and crushes it with her high heel. He laughs nothing will ruin his mood today. Kate leers EJ has stolen everything from him. Stefano whips out another Cuban and notes Elvis is indeed a chip off the old block! Stylish Kate suspects he is really plotting EJ’s demise all while pretending to be happily retired. He drawls he never thinks of his children in such a manner and taunts her for having to spend the rest of her miserable life alone. He kisses his pretty Asian girlfriend again. Kate walks off. The phoenix slowly shakes his head.
- Outside the courtroom, EJ learns from lawyer Justin that this is still not an easy case but he will do all he can. EJ now enters the courtroom with his briefcase in hand and kisses his beloved. He is assuming the cash is all he will need for her bail hearing on this day. Boy is he wrong! Justin sits down beside his client and calmly pours the water. Sami is nervous about the lady shark prosecutor. EJ sits behind her. The bailiff orders all to rise. And so they do. Sami spies Eric and urges him to keep his holy distance from her drama, but the loyal twin stays. Here comes the judge! His Honor settles in and remarks they have already been here and done this. The smug prosecutor boasts in light of new evidence, this time the charge is murder in the first degree! The judge considers that an ambitious attempt, given her original charges of second degree murder were a flop. Justin elegantly stands up and argues that his client Sami should be released on her own recognizance. The D.A. bursts out laughing and the judge is not impressed. She suggests Sami is a threat to the community. Her claim is that she was trying to defend Rafe which is why she killed Bernardi. The judge is still not impressed. She argues seeing is believing and what he soon sees will convince him she is right to have upped the charges. The two lawyers are asked to approach the bench. His Honor agrees to review the video in question and calls a 10 minute recess. Eric asks EJ what this all means. EJ mutters the dastardly D.A. is hell bent
on keeping Samantha in jail. He is hopeful about the outcome though he now suggests a prayer. Meanwhile, Justin reassures stressed out Sami
the video does not indicate she is any kind of danger to the community. Enter Abe. He approaches the smug D.A. EJ leans forward to Justin.This does not look good! He wonders what the hell the commissioner is doing at a bail hearing. Justin suspects the bail amount will be high. EJ is not fussed about it. Meanwhile, the D.A. reminds Abe that the mayor said he was supposed to help her. For now his presence will suffice, she will say no more. Abe wonders what she is really up to. He has a bad feeling. Nearby, Sami complains to Eric it is her fault that Roman has temporarily lost his job. She also regrets the media circus the church event became.
It worries her that the bishop might reassign Eric to a lesser place than Salem. He assures her he is right here for her and squeezes her hand. She perceives the worry in his eyes. He hugs his scared sister and makes light of the situation.
- At the hospital, Dr. Cam assures worried sister Gabi that Rafe is just sleeping. He asks about her and the baby and her face lights up. Abigail now enters with Chad. Gabi steps away to take a call. Chad muses her friend is making a move on her boyfriend. Abigail has other matters on
her mind. She informs Cam that Chad needs his head examined. He makes a joke about knowing that from the first moment he met him. She is serious. He will see if he can fit him in and leaves to confer with Kayla. Gabi returns. Chad proceeds to tease her about young Dr. Cam, whom she insists is just a good friend. The three discuss baby Ari and how she now recognizes her mom. Meanwhile Cam enters Kayla’s office and
she hastily closes the Bernardi file on her desk. He asks if she has time to do an exam on Chad DiMera. Negative. She is rather booked and orders him to do it. Cam goes back to Chad with the news that he will be the doctor conducting his examination. Chad grins a goofy grin and walks off with him to get started.
- The judge is back after viewing the video. He proceeds to rule on the bail and sets it at ... The special prosecutor stands up and insists bail be denied. Justin loudly objects. The D.A. explains she has a witness who can substantiate that Samantha Brady would flee Salem if granted bail
and is therefore a flight risk! Justin argues his client has children and long standing ties to the community. The D.A. argues she shot a cop and also lied to the police. She lied about not knowing the victim. Justin begs to differ. The ill willed D.A. wonders why no one has interviewed Rafe. EJ rages he is in a coma. Sami wonders who the witness is. The judge bangs his hammer and yells for order in the chaotic court. No more outbursts! Furthermore, opposing council must address him and not each other.
First the D.A. is permitted to speak. She argues EJ DiMera, the accused’s fiancé, just seized control of DiMera Enterprises and could easily take the family to Casablanca, where the U.S. has no extradition treaty and the DiMeras have interests. Justin calls it speculation. The D.A. states she herself overheard EJ saying he would get his fiancee out of the mess and do whatever it takes. Justin suggests she is twisting his words. The D.A. points out the commissioner was also present and can confirm she has spoken the truth. EJ looks down in dismay. Sami stares.
- At the hospital, Gabi and Abigail discuss the baby, being a new mom. Gabi marvels she and Will are going to be responsible for Ari for the rest of their lives. Abigail the inexperience young girl is curious how that feels. Overwhelming, though seeing her daughter’s little face gazing at her makes her the happiest woman in the world.
- In an examination room, Chad takes several deep breaths for Cam and his stethoscope. He tries to tease him about Gabi and brings up Abigail. Dr. Cam is all business. Everything seems okay so far. Now they just need a CT scan as a precaution. Chad may get dressed.
- Dr. Kayla has another visitor and tries to explain to Kate that she is too busy, but the diva will not be dismissed. She haughtily reminds her of her generosity for the hospital and advises her to make time!
- Chad gets dressed, assures Abigail and Gabi, he is just fine and takes off when he receives a mysterious text. Cam returns, but the young doctor is soon paged away. Abigail thinks there is no reason for her to remain at the hospital. But before she departs, Gabi would like an update on the status of Abigail and Chad ... and Cameron!
- Concerned Kate receives confirmation from Kayla that Rafe will soon begin his physical therapy to learn how to move around again, use his
legs, etc. Kate wants her own person brought in - a private physical therapist - and argues Stefano has plants everywhere. Kayla realizes she shares Sami’s view that he even had a plant in the Salem P.D. Kate
adds that Stefano knew she and Rafe were having an affair, hence his thirst for revenge against Rafe. She would like to pay the salary of the private physical therapist and points out this would save the hospital money as well. She is not going to take no for an answer. There is far
too much at stake.
- Abe the reluctant witness is on the witness stand. He testifies under
oath that he did hear indeed EJ state he would do what he had to in order to keep Sami safe. Justin wishes to address the court and reasons it is a vague statement. One cannot guess what Mr. DiMera meant. The D.A. argues EJ did disable his own tracking device once upon a time and was aided and abetted by Samantha. Leaving the country was planned and the children would have remained behind! She paints the picture of a Bonnie and Clyde couple. EJ clenches his fist. The judge grudgingly announces bail is denied. The prisoner will be remanded into custody awaiting trial. Shockwaves are sent through the entire courtroom. Justin jumps up and exclaims his client will surrender her passport if need be. The judge shuts him down and announces court is adjourned. EJ rages it is an OUTRAGE and holds sobbing Sami. The D.A. calls the coldblooded murder of a cop an outrage. Sami screams that is not what happened and cries she cannot go back to jail. Justin looks on in horror as the guards take the broken prisoner away.
- Back in her office, Kayla secretly goes through the Bernardi autopsy and medical report, checking, comparing until she finds something strange. She cannot believe her eyes!
- Sami is returned to her cell, insisting she is still innocent. Back in the courtroom EJ demands to know WOT the hell happened. Justin sighs it seems his past came back to haunt him. His outburst in court did not help their case much either. EJ wonders wot comes next. Justin advises him
to stop talking. He now receives a text from Kayla, who apparently has something important on Sami’s case to share. EJ is as surprised as Justin and asks Eric to let Samantha know he will see her shortly. He exits with Justin. Abe apologizes to Eric for what happened at the church. Eric agrees it was terrible though he understands the wish that many have for justice for Joe. Their family feels the same way about Sami. Abe thinks
he is noble and generous. Eric hopes they will keep his twin sister safe in custody. Abe assures the holy man that he and Hope are keeping an eye on things. Eric thanks him. Abe now turns to the D.A. and rages not to ever put him in such a position again. She triumphantly leers she was just doing her job.
- Chad walks through the park until he reaches Stefano and his ladylove snuggling on a bench. The phoenix has summoned him and sends his ladylove on her way. Chad wonders what he wants and accuses him of having his goon put Rafe in a coma. Surely he cannot expect him to love him. Stefano rages he should love his father and calls him a brrrrrrrrat! Chad calls his love a lie. Stefano suddenly offers to tell him the truth if that is what he is after. And he may ask one question. He swears he will reveal any truth, regardless of the result! Ominous music is heard.
- Gabi is curious which guy Abigail likes. Chad or Cam? Abigail admits she is not with either one. Gabi assumed she was with Cameron. Abigail did too for a while. The truth is, she likes both guys and sighs. Gabi suggests she enjoy the moment and hugs her. Exit Abigail. Gabi stays behind.
- Sami is lying in her cell all alone. A figure silently appears. She turns
and looks. Tis Father Eric, who muses she must have been in the middle of a prayer. She asks him to put in a good word for her with the man upstairs, then laments Sydney will not come running to greet her at home now. He assures her it is only a matter of time and suggests she let the family worry about the kids. She laments she has ruined everyone’s life
all over again. Even Rafe believes she wanted to hurt him. Eric notes she pushes to the max for those she loves and they will not give up on her! She calls him the Brady family rock and that is good. He will need to be strong for what is coming!
- Cam gets the CT results for Chad. The lab technician calls his attention to a specific area. Cam stares and gasps.
- Chad muses he only gets one question. The phoenix swears to tell the trrrrrrrruth!
- Kate runs into Gabi at the hospital. Evidently sedated Rafe is still asleep. Gabi was worried about leaving her brother unattended. Kate thinks she should go home to her new baby. She promises to make sure he has the best possible care and will be safe.
- Chad has one dramatic question for Stefano. Did he send Detective Joe Bernardi to KILL Rafe Hernandez? The phoenix’s eyes slyly darken as
he mulls over his answer.
- Eric promises Sami that legal eagle Justin will leave no stone unturned until he has gotten her out. Sami sighs they need to find the razor with Bernardi’s fingerprints or else she will soon be needing her last rites!
- EJ arrives to meet with Kayla at her office. Justin is busy filing a legal appeal. The chief of staff suggests she might have found something. EJ appears bored. Kayla explains. According to Bernardi’s medical reports,
it is possible Sami’s bullet was not his cause of death. EJ stares. She now has his full attention!
