PART 1 - At the festive pub, Bo and Hope are dressed to the nines and toasting to the new year with Doug and Julie. Hope and Julie are all sequined up! They are looking forward to tonight. Doug is singing and he and Julie are ever so romantic! - At DiMera mansion, lovers EJ and Nicole are nekid under the luxurious sheets and he is utterly delighted they are spending this time together. She reminds him he is expected at the town square. Shirtless EJ drawls he would rather do THIS and they start to make out again. She teases he has to do what is in his mayoral job description. He agrees so the kids can be proud of him but steals another kiss. - At the office, Madison glumly explains to Brady that she simply cannot leave. Thanks to Sami, she is stuck with work. He wants to celebrate New Year's eve. She thinks he should go out without her. He starts to walk out and she gets bitter about being abandoned by him. He returns in a second with a romantic dinner on a tray,which he had planned all along. She throws her arms around him and thanks him. Once they are finished dessert, he steps out. Just then Madison gets a call from her mystery caller, who apparently wishes her a happy new year. She replies she is busy, promises she will get to it, and ends the call. Brady returns with champagne and would like to know who that was on the phone! - Marlena is kissing John on the sofa. They are ready for the New Year! He is amazed that he has everything again, meaning her. She decides they should order Chinese food, checks her ipad, the notices their debit card has been declined. John makes some calls. As it turns out, they have no money, not a single cent to their name! They will not be able to pay their bills! Marlena notes this is what many Americans are going through right now. She goes in the kitchen to make him something special. He wants to help. Later, as they eat together, he thanks her for understanding why they had to give it all away. Marlena knows they will be fine. He makes her a promise about the future ... - Austin and Carrie are ready to go out tonight but he wants to take that red dress off her instead. He promises to make it quick and kisses her neck. "Not too quick," she smiles and they end up in bed! - At the loft, Sami is wearing boots and a dress and thinks Will looks great. Rafe pours champagne and agrees. Will is going to the town square party with Melanie and Sonny. Rafe offers him some finger food. Sami states it is from Chez Rouge. Rafe thinks they cannot afford it. Sami now announces she has a new job and it pays double! The men folk appear dubious. Rafe congratulates her and points out she could have talked to him first. She smiles it is great and so are the benefits, even though she will be working with Kate. Rafe blanches. "As in Kate DiMera?!" Sami quips they need the money. Will silently observes. Rafe explains Carrie asked him to be lead investigator and partner in her new company but at least he was going to talk to her first. Sami makes a snide remark about him wanting to work with the sister she does not get along with. Will explodes. He starts to yell at her for being so selfish! Rafe warns him not to talk to his mother that way. Will growls he does not even deserve her. Sami insists he tell her what the problem is. They are interrupted by the noisy arrival of visitors. Mel and Sonny wish everyone a happy new year. Upon hearing they have crab cakes. Mel accepts Sami's invitation to stay for a visit. Will glares at his mother. Sami quickly buttonholes Mel and wonders if Will is upset with her too. Mel recalls how temperamental he was following his breakup with Gabi. Sami hopes that he just needs time. Before he leaves, she takes her son aside and informs him she knows she has not been around for him to talk to about Gabi. She will do better in the future and adds she loves him. Will coldly states it is time to go and ushers his friends out with him. Rafe now asks Sami if she is alright. She sighs Will is upset at her. She hopes he too is not upset and apologizes for not checking with him first about the job. She always just jumps first. Rafe assures her he is proud of his mini-mogul. And it is good she has a steady gig, but he too yearns to work. He hopes she does not mind him working with her sister. Knock knock! Tis Carrie and Austin, there to celebrate! - Suited EJ is at the town square with Nicole. She praises him. And she cannot believe they are together again after all that happened. He admits it has been quite the year and proposes a toast to their fresh start as a couple. They clink their glasses and drink to that! - Abigail has invited Chad to spend the evening at the house with her. As she tells him their pizza is in the oven, he stares at a picture of Mel on his iphone. She soon emerges and wonders if he is ready for the movie. He pretends he is happy to be there. They later play cards and she wants to know his new year's resolution. To improve his grades. He is concerned Austin's class will be hard and mentions the book on relationships. They both start to say they need to talk at the same time! They admit things do not feel right with them anymore, though it is no one's fault. Abigail wonders what this means.
