He threatens to kill her. Bo asks him to use the speaker phone. He does. Bo and Roman implore the attacker to calm down and put the knife down. "Stop talking!" bellows Gus, tightening his hold on a terrified Nicole's throat. EJ stares tensely. Hope offers to be Gus' friend and talk. Gus is not interested. She is just like all those other tramps! He will not listen to Bo, either. EJ starts to advance. Gus warns to stop or it is over for Nicole! Things get even more tense, as Nicole's life hangs in the balance. Bo keeps the madman talking. Gus laments things were not supposed to go this way. EJ's worried eyes focus on Nicole, then he looks at Viv. Gus states he just wanted it to be him and his Madame. Her son ruined everything when he tried to take her away from him. Viv steps forward and shakes her head. She calls him a messed up little man. Hope and Abe quietly ask her to intervene and talk to him. Viv does not seem to want to cooperate. EJ growls if she does not, then he is holding her personally responsible for anything that happens to Nicole! He glares daggers at her. Vivian agrees to talk to her frazzled flunky after all and gets closer. Gus tells her how much she means to him and claims he was worried. She remarks his devotion is certainly intense. Gus argues Quinn was only using her. He cares about her. Viv lies that she cares too. Gus woefully states he loves and worships her. But ever since Quinn showed up, he has felt invisible. Viv places her hand on the glass window between them and invites him to come away with her. They can leave Salem forever. Gus watches her and weeps. - In the holding area, Tay tells imprisoned Quinn what she is facing for having helped him. He insists he is innocent. She believes him. It means a lot to him. He apologizes for her having legal woes because of him. Tay does not think the police will be able to keep him. Quinn complains there is evidence and tells her of the nightstick. Taylor is stunned. Who would want to frame him? Quinn wants her to concentrate on her own problem. She replies EJ is her lawyer and she would like him to represent him as well. Quinn appears doubtful that he is only her lawyer, given their past. Tay assures him what she had with EJ was a mistake. They were both merely trying to forget other people. She was trying to forget Quinn. He emotionally admits he never forgot her either. He dared to think this time they could have a future together and he would get out of his line of work, become respectable. His dream was a fresh start for the both of them. Now he fears his hopes were in vain. She encourages him not to give up. He, however, is dismal about going to prison, in which case he would not want her to wait for him. Tay repeats he is innocent and needs to fight. He wonders if she believes he would be able to change. She softly suggests they take that one step at a time. He wants to talk long term. He would like to change forever for her. She wants to believe it is possible. The guard gets a message on his radio and they are shocked to hear there is a hostage situation in the squad room. - At the hospital, nurse Mel sees Maggie and hopes all is well. Of course. Maggie just got a clean bill of health from her neurologist. The redhead asks about Dario. He texted her as soon as he landed about beautiful Argentina, but she misses him. She is working to forget and will soon be getting off. Maggie suggests she have some fun with her. Melanie gets changed. Maggie's idea is shopping and Mel likes that. How about shoe shopping? Mel giggles she would like a dress and purse to match. Maggie wants her to help her find something for the big party. Victor is sending his car for them. They walk off arm in arm to go shopping, like two peas in a pod. - Jen arrives late for her date with Dan at the pub. She kisses him many times and explains how she helped prep Sami for a job interview. Dan is impressed. He knows Jen was spectacular and thinks she should consider a career in it. Jen might do that. Dan now invites her on a bike ride, since it is his day off. They kiss, giggle, and agree to meet up at the bike rack later in the day. They enjoy their good food and Caroline joins them for a moment. She heard them talking about the dedication ceremony for Tom and Alice Horton. Everyone is very excited, especially about Bo and Hope's big surprises at their bash afterwards. Jen is amused that even Caroline has no clue what the surprises are. Caroline sighs she even tried to bribe Ciara without success. Dan is curious as well, though he respects the fact that it is a surprise. Jen gushes the big day is almost here! Enter Maggie and her personal shopper Mel. She found the perfect dress for the big event. Mel thinks papa Dan and Jen's planned bike ride sounds romantic. Dan notes she is preoccupied. She informs them Dario left last night. Papa Dan is sorry and consoles his daughter with a hug. She thinks she will be okay. Jen tells her that she once had a boyfriend Frankie and long distance did not work, but they stayed friends. What really helped was grandma's cure all for a broken heart. A gigantic ice cream sundae! Dan is all for it and asks Caroline to make the biggest, gooiest, coldest hot fudge sundae possible. Mel is cheered up. - The police guard in the holding area shoves Taylor into Quinn's cell. He will be back as soon as he checks out what is happening. - Back in the squad room. Gus reaches up and places his hand on the glass window, against Viv's. Can he really believe she is sincere? She gives him her word. Gus is distracted. Roman and Bo race in and charge him as Rafe points his gun, demanding he let the girl go. Gus yells she lied, but it is too late. He is overpowered and hauled out of the room. EJ cradles Nicole, who has collapsed, and appears to have a little nick to her neck. He whispers her name as she lies in his arms, her eyes closed ... - Nicole slowly opens her eyes in EJ's arms and moans her head hurts. Hope explains the paramedics are on their way. She will be fine. EJ helps her into a chair. He is concerned. She hugs him tight. She later sits with him at in an interrogation room and credits him with saving her life. She owes him and thanks him. He murmurs it was his pleasure. She admits she feared the wacko would kill her. EJ insists he would never let that happen. She thinks he almost sounds like he means it. Their eyes lock. He tenderly wonders whether she would like to see a doctor. Nicole bitterly asks him to stop pretending he is worried. He replies that he is, even though she has always been a thorn in his side. She snaps he was no picnic. He exclaims they have had their good times. She now wants a drink. He offers to take her home. Their eyes lock again. He notes she lives with Brady but he can take her there. She quietly states she does indeed live with Brady. Nicole appears overwhelmed. She adds she can drive herself home, thanks him and departs, after handing him back the jacket he had put around her. EJ stares. - Roman reads cuffed Gus his rights. Viv explains to Abe she had no idea he was so disturbed. She demands her caged son be released and that monster be put in his place. "Madame!" exclaims Gus.
