Her hair was in a ponytail and black Dior sunglasses covered her cat eyes. Her old friend Madame Etelka the fortune telling psychic was back in town and insisting on reading her Tarot cards. When they spoke over the phone, Dakota had said she would bring baby Marilyn, who was blonde and bubbly as ever, but Madame Etelka had advised her to come alone. The meeting place was her old room on Hollywood Boulevard. - Dakota climbed the creaky stairs without hesitation. An old Chinese clock chimed for the wrong time and she blinked in the semi-darkness. - Madame Etelka kissed her on both cheeks Transylvanian style. - Dakota was positively beaming. "We have been renewed!" - Etelka motioned for her to take a seat at the small wooden table where the Tarot cards had been laid. "Rejuvenation is good for the soul, dahling." - "I meant the show. The show has been renewed for 100 years. One can only imagine how much botox we’ll be needing after the first 50 years. We made soap history and even outlasted that billionaire buffoon's reality show." - Madame Etelka insisted they focus on the reading. She admitted she was worried and suggested she choose the cards carefully, with concentration. Dakota dutifully chose three cards. The psychic stared down at them for a very long time. The Chinese clock struck again. - "You have been toooooooooo trusting.” - Dakota pouted her red lips. "There is no way my hubby is cheating on me." - "I speak of others, those who would darrrrre to go against you and stab you in the back." - "Who?" - "That I do not know." - "But you said ..." - Madame Etelka shook her head. "I convey what the cards say and they say you must be careful, trust no one. That is all for now." - By the time Dakota departed from the dingy building, her diva head was positively spinning. Madame Etelka was never wrong! She clutched the crystal the psychic had presented to her for extra protection with its positive energy and stepped out onto the sidewalk for a breath of not so fresh air. - "I was waiting for you." It was the Hollywood blogger, the one who had spied on her Spago lunch with Chip the producer and Dragos, only to break the news of their 100 year soap renewal before the network. Dakota wasn’t sure whether to slap or thank him for the publicity. - "No comment." - "Look I missed a cannabis event just to follow you here." - "So?" - "So I simply must speak to you. It’s a matter of life and death." He paused ominously. "YOURS!" |
