Soap Sins Monday, December 19, 2011 CHAPTER 14 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. LINK ONLY! STALKER! - Dakota was meeting with the president of her fan club at a trendy hamburger joint frequented by daytime stars. The fan club president was a burger and fries kinda gal so she was in her element. Dakota, however, was notably squeamish. She forced a smile and ate another French fry, reminding herself that they were now called just plain fries. - "I've got it right here." The fan club president took out the letter and handed it to her. "I think this one is a stalker in the making." - Dakota held it cautiously, not because of the potential dangers, but because she had just gotten an expensive Beverly Hills manicure and had no intention of getting an unsightly paper cut. She peered down at the typed one-page letter and proceeded to read: My Darling Dakota, I have been an admirer of yours for years and have followed your entire career. You are an amazing woman with amazing talent and I hope you realize this. You deserve a Daytime Emmy for the recent scenes you did with your co-star Bill. I will write more next week. Who knows. Maybe one day we shall meet. Maybe high in the Hollywood Hills. Your Fan - "That's it?" - The fan club president nodded. - "It's kind of sweet if you ask me." Dakota now spotted Brent the blonde surfer dude walking in with premier designer sunglasses and a redheaded extra. Of course Brent would choose the trendiest place in Hollywood. It was all about image. She waved him over to her table and he left the redheaded extra standing alone at the door for a minute. - "What's up, D.D.?" - She showed him the letter. "What do you think of this?" - "You know I'm blind as a bat without my prescription glasses." - She sighed and quietly read it to him, adding "She believes he could be stalker material." - Brent nodded. "Gonna call the cops about it? Summon the FBI? Get the CIA involved?" - "He just got a supporting role as a secret agent in a web series," Dakota explained to the baffled fan club president. "He's been getting in character ever since." - "Methodical acting," Brent jumped in. He chuckled, grabbed a fry - which wasn't even French at all - and pointed it at her like it was a gun. Dakota laughed and waved him away. He sauntered back to the eager redhead and then sat at a booth in the corner. - The fan club president shook her head. "There are some clues in this letter. First of all, he knows you live in the Hollywood Hills." - "Probably because I did a photo shoot and interview for the celebrity homes magazine. That doesn’t mean he knows my address, though." - "Have you smelled it?" - "The magazine?" - "No, the letter." - Dakota lifted the paper and sniffed. "Why, it smells just like ..." - "Your perfume. That's because it is." - Dakota smiled. "My fans are very special." - "The envelope indicates the letter was mailed from Colorado, but there was no return address. He could be a mountain man stalker. Worse than the usual prison inmates." - Later that evening, when Dakota was having a cocktail at the Polo Lounge with her manager Marv, she laughingly told him her fan club president's concern. - He frowned. "We need to get you some extra security. You do stand to inherit billions from your now deceased ex. One can never be too cautious." - Dakota sipped her mimosa and considered. "Oh alright, I could use a bodyguard, but he had better be dreamy!" - Meanwhile, in Colorado, her biggest fan was already composing his next letter to her. He had something very specific in mind and it was all about the end game ... |
