CHAPTER 13

ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. LINK ONLY!

WOMAN IN BLACK!

- Dakota shakily pulled into the studio parking lot with her corvette.
Nick, the prime time star turned Broadway sensation and her husband
on impulse, was dead. He had decided to take a trip to Tibet for spiritual enlightenment and the small plane he was on had crashed into the side
of a mountain and burst into flames. There were no survivors. She felt numb.
- When Brent the blonde surfer dude found her consoling herself with
a scotch on the rocks in her dressing room, he offered his condolences. "Were you two gonna get back together after you sorta split?"
- She sighed. "I'm not sure." Pause. "Do you know how long Scarlett O'Hara was in mourning?"
- Brent squinted his pretty blue eyes. "Who's she?"
- "She was the heroine in
Gone With the Wind." Her eyes suddenly
filled with tears. "I am going to wear black to mourn Nick, for just as
long as Scarlett wore black when she lost her first husband."
- Brent nodded. "Cool."
- An hour later, Dakota was filming a scene with her leading man, Bill. They were supposed to be having a shouting match which led to sex on the sofa. Once it was done, the director said they had never been so in synch and praised their acting ability. The truth of the matter was, they were both rather inebriated, and that was why they had been in synch. They remained in synch for the photo shoot after the long day of filming and posed comfortably together, after Dakota had fluffed out her bangs for the windblown siren look she was so famous for.
- She later found herself alone in her dressing room again and ignored
her ringing phone. The press wanted a statement, but she wanted to be left alone. The only call she took was the one from Marv.
- "As your friend, I am very sorry for your loss, but as your lawyer, I have to go over some important matters with you."
- "Poor Nick. He was so full of life. I will miss his joie de vivre, his love of Vegas, his lumineers, and even his hair extensions ..."
- "He was worth over a billion dollars and there were no kids, plus no will."
- Dakota dropped her glass of scotch and it fell to the polished floor with a crash.
- Marv asked if she was alright.
- "Did you say over a billion?"
- "I did indeed, and you two were still legally married at the time of his death."
- She slowly shook her head. "We were separated, about to get ..."
- "He was away in New York, working, and then took a trip to Tibet, where you planned to meet up with him."
- She blinked. "I did?"
- "Yes, you did. And you were a happily married couple, together in every sense of the word. Otherwise, the first wife might make a play for the estate. Listen, can we meet later this evening, at my condo? There's lots to discuss, though I should warn you, my darling Hollywood wife
will be cooking again."
- Dakota agreed to be there in a couple of hours. Once the call was
over, she stared at her reflection and decided the black sweater she
was wearing to mourn Nick was just too frumpy. She took it off, telling herself she would not dwell on his death, she would celebrate his life instead!
- Meanwhile, in a small Los Angeles office, the president of her fan club had received another bag of fan mail, which included a very strange letter to soap star Dakota Diamonelle. The stalker kind ...
