Alone on her bed, Sami reads EJ's final letter. She finds much more than she ever expected. For starters, EJ pens he left instructions for his lawyer and points out her receiving the letter means that Stefano was responsible for his disappearance. Sami keeps reading ... At the hospital, Stefano implores his sleeping son to wake up. Chad is not responsive. Rafe slips in with questions but Stefano gives him a hard time ... until he realizes Rafe is asking whether Chad was being hidden at the house at the time of any crimes cos Rafe must believe Chad to be innocent. Rafe drawls what he believes matters not. D.A. Justin is out for blood. He needs more than a theory, he needs evidence ... Stefano considers ... Abi is back at the apartment and finds a fallen item she did not pick up post fight. She gasps Chad's name. Big Ben walks in and demands to know why she speaks Chad's name ...Paul is sincerely sorry for Sonny. He admits he came to the apartment to see him. Sonny weeps. Paul walks in. Sonny sighs this scene of the crime looks exactly the way he left the place. It feels as though Will could walk in any minute... Abigail starts to stammer she was reminded of the big fight between Ben and Chad. Ben warns her to be careful cos crazy Chad could come after her and their unborn child. They embrace but she has a faraway look in her eye. So much doubt is mirrored in those doe eyes. Ben rants about Chad being obsessed with her ... EJ writes he would do something to deal with Stefano if it came to this and vows it would involve keeping Samantha and the children safe. In this letter she will find a key to a secret safety deposit box in Zurich. With that key she could exact her revenge on Stefano. Sami stops and clutches the key, totally immersed in the dramatic turn her day has taken ... Sonny wistfully wishes he could go back and relive the last several months. Paul wistfully wishes that for him as well. He can see how his heart is breaking and it seems to break his heart too ... Sonny needs to pick up a few things for now. Paul offers to help him pack. Sonny would rather be alone. Paul discreetly departs but he pauses outside the door. Inside Sonny cries while clutching Will's picture ... At the edgy Edge, Eric decides to drown his sorrows to "celebrate" the big Basic Black press release he has read on his ipad ... EJ writes the only consolation he will have is when he imagines Sami with their kids on an island far far away. Sami gets emotional. Then she gets to thinking of the deeper hidden meaning, grabs her stuff,and runs out of her room. Marlena stops her and wonders. Elusive Sami will only say she is on her way out ... Ben sternly hopes Abigail understands what he is saying. She feebly nods as he places his possessive arms around her. Knock knock! Tis Columbo Rafe, playing the role of the down-to-earth detective to perfection. He casually claims he is here for Ben's statement. Abigail hastily excuses herself to work. Rafe advises Ben to begin at the beginning and adds he might remember a detail he forgot to mention before. He eyes him and waits ... At the townhouse ... Knock knock! Tis heartbroken handsome Sonny calling. He shares a teary embrace with sorry Sami and suggests he is at fault for what befell Will. Marlena exclaims no! Sami suggests he talk to her mother and hastily excuses herself. Sonny worries she blames him. Marlena the emotional healer explains everyone is reeling. They share an unhappy embrace. She is so sorry ... Rafe implies Chad might not be the right man but Ben does not notice. He remembers what really happened and lies Chad was raving and attacked him. Rafe muses but he fought back and stares into his hollow eyes ... Sami has summoned Eric to a park bench and smells the booze on his breath. He suggests it was just a social. She swears him to secrecy and shows him EJ's shocking letter. Eric reads and refuses to believe it was from EJ. It could be a forgery to fool her, send her on a wild goose chase. Sami insists only EJ knew certain things that were said. Eric suggests Stefano could have found those things out as well, by bugging the mansion. Sami sighs about her sibling being too cynical. She wishes she would have been able to share this dramatic development with Caroline ... By the hospital elevator unhappy Abigail runs into Stefano, who snaps to stay away from his son. She assures him she helped Chad and does not want to believe he was the killer. Stefano scowls and motions for his man to push his wheelchair into the elevator ... Sonny heads to the hospital. Abigail hugs him. They lament the loss of Will. They both feel it makes no sense. She asks whether he has seen Arianna yet. Sonny sadly states he has not as he is simply not ready. He glances in the direction of Chad's room. still disbelieving that Will's old bff could have killed him ... Rafe thanks Ben and then turns back at the door before departing. One more thing. The timeline is odd as, according to Ben, Chad was mad about Abigail but Abigail has been with Ben for almost a year, not to mention that she actually dumped Chad to be with Ben a while ago. Why would he escalate any action now of all times? Ben freezes .... Sami blames Stefano for what happened to Will as well as EJ. She can feel in her heart of hearts that this letter is from EJ. She intends to go to his lawyer as the address was included. Eric suggests she come down from the clouds to face what really counts - the fact that she buries her son tomorrow. He sympathetically suggests she is trying to get over her grief by creating a clue where there is none. Sami sadly agrees not to do anything until after Will's funeral, her eyes filled with pain again. Brother and sister share a heartfelt hug. But she still has the Swiss key ... Sonny takes a night stroll in the Salem park and sadly sits on a bench all alone. Paul jogs by and stops. He was not stalking him. Sonny knows this is his usual jogging hour and Paul sits beside him ... Ben rants and raves about Chad snapping after all this time ... Paul wonders whether Sonny has made any decisions about what to do after the funeral. Sonny sighs he must make certain Gabi and Ari are alright and then return to the continent. Paul advises him not to rashly run away and reminds him he always spoke of Salem as if it were his home. Sonny appreciates the advice and heads off into the night ... At DiMera mansion a chess game is underway. Andre slyly suggests it would be best for brotha Chad to remain in a coma so they could at least sneak him away somewhere far away where he would be safe. Stefano stares darkly and takes the black queen - the queen of the night. He grins a wicked grin and declares there is another option ... Pale Abigail woefully watches Chad sleeping through the window. She cannot imagine he would have done the things he has been accused of ... Rafe humors Ben but before he goes mentions Chad will tell them more when he wakes up if he ever does. Once alone, Ben looks at the man in the mirror, wondering how it came to this. Then he turns his rage on a framed photograph of himself with Abi in happier times and rams his fist through the glass, punching himself out of the picture ... THE END! |
