There is only one DaysCafe :) Now without further ado ... Joey, Kayla, and Steve are at the pub for a family meal. Kayla is anxious about the Ava case. Joey, however, argues they have enough evidence with the newly discovered shrine that shows Ava was a madwoman. He wants to confess. His parents protest. Kayla sends him to the kitchen to check on Caroline. Steve sighs and tells sweetness how much he worries for their family, wants to protect them. He touches her hand and tenderly tells her he will make things right ... Forensics Shawn is at the scene of the shootout. They have found the same symbolic tattoo on two dead shooters but what does it mean? ... Ed is wheeled into the hospital for surgery. Gabi is shocked he was shot, still holding Arianna in her arms. Rafe solemnly updates Marlena on John being missing. She already knows about the evil agency and fears for her soul mate. When Gabi is informed Ed was also an assassin, she is stunned. There are so many question she laments will never be answered if he does not survive the surgery ... John doubts the madman holding him hostage is his father. The old man tells him his story. He felt betrayed and abandoned by his country, which he bitterly refers to as the United States of Aggression. He was wounded and left for the mountains of China, where he trained in the martial arts and learned the ways of eastern medicine from the masters. He offers John some strange tea he has mixed and later wakes him up by throwing cold water on him. John finds the strength to stand, though he remains tied to the column. He knows Yo Ling in English means the phantom. The old man admits he founded his own organization - the phantom alliance - for the greater good. He trained assassins for his revolution and finally found John. He paid off the Alamains for the orphan and had him taken to Winterthorne, to be trained as a great team leader. But Petrov betrayed him and handed him to Stefano DiMera. John scoffs at the irony and responds with scathing sarcasm. He destroyed his life! Ling the loon believes in a higher purpose He spews anti-western propaganda. John wonders what he wants with him now ... Back at the hospital, Marlena laments to Rafe that the agency must have taken John. They were trying to force him to come back and kill for them. She updates Rafe on Winterthorne being where they were trained and brainwashed. John was not exaggerating when he called it evil ... Rafe updates flabbergasted Gabi, who is still holding Arianna, on their father's assassin past, the fact that the assassins agency wanted John back, hence the abduction of Ari and Marlena. Gabi takes it all in stride, hoping for her father's full recovery, after which he will be able to answer their questions ... Kayla curtly reminds Steve he is supposed to meet Belle. Joey returns and reasons he wants his father to get off. Kayla quips so does she ... Belle meets with Steve at the square. She is flabbergasted by the photographs of Ava's deranged shrine to him, with threats against Kayla smeared in blood. Steve suspects it is enough to argue self-defense as Ava clearly did pose a threat. Belle notes not exactly but it might be enough to get the charges dropped. The D.A. might not want this to come out. She goes to meet him. Steve is cautiously optimistic ... Far away John's madman father admits he is ailing. He has the same illness as Caroline. John is dismayed to deduce he was the one who went after Bo. Ling laments he may have suffered from oversight with the person he hired to get him the formula. John growls good man Bo is dead because of him. His eyes narrow with rage. Ling the loon alludes to lives needing to be sacrificed for the greater good. His personal manifesto is pure madness ... Belle meets with D.A. Justin in his office. She shows him the shocking shrine pictures and confidently claims the charges against her client should be dropped. But the D.A. decides to go by the book. One cannot claim self-defense for suffocating a feeble patient. Steve went outside the law yet again and this still sounds like MURDER. Therefore, he goes to trial ... Shawn returns to the hospital with news for Detective Rafe. The Chinese symbols tattooed on the two shooters mean phantom. In addition, the drug in the drink John and Ed were given is commonly used by Asian gangs. Rafe solemnly steps away to call ISA Shane for assistance ... John angrily asks what happened to kinder gentler Tim. He had his old newspaper clippings. Ling calls Tim a nobody, trash talks the USA, and declares Ling is the man who makes a difference. John snaps so did Stalin. Ling laughs as did Malcolm, Mandela, crazy horse, and others. He, however intends to live long and that is why he needs his son. John peers at him ... Belle has bad news for Steve. The D.A. did not budge so he has to go to trial. Steve takes it all in stride. He has accepted the fact that he might have to do time ... Joey storms through the park. Pretty Jade stops him and notes something is the matter. He can tell her, is it about the Vitali woman and what his dad did? Joey blurts out his father did nothing for HE was the one who killed her! He tells her the whole sordid story. She suggests his father is amazing to take the fall for him ... At the hospital, Gabi suddenly gasps JJ has his sister's wedding. He insists on staying by her side and they share a heartfelt hug ... Dr Fynn emerges. The surgery was a success and the patient needs to rest. Rafe, however, is permitted to see the patient providing he does not give him stress. Eduardo is lying in his bed and is glad to see him. Rafe thanks him for taking that bullet which was meant for him. Ed makes light of it. Marlena enters. Ed is troubled when they tell him John is missing. Rafe adds the alliance snatched him. He stops Ed from getting out of bed to go find him and asks him about the alliance. Marlena waits with worry mirrored in her eyes for the man she loves ... Joey explains he cannot allow his noble father to be convicted for his crime. Jade feels he was drunk, pushed over the edge, and his pop is a great guy. He sounds better than her dad ... Back at the hospital, recently arrived Steve sighs the latest to Kayla, who laments this bad day got even worse. He is horrified to hear John was kidnapped by his old alliance ... Ed gasps they are called the phantom alliance. He met only low level players with code names. He did not even know from whence they came or where John could be. He wishes he had more to offer ... Ling informs his son that he also suffers from a blood disease. He will be needing HIS BLOOD ... Joey has just received word his father is going to trial. He tells Jade he is turning himself in ... Gabi greets Ed in his room with Arianna. She thanks him for getting Arianna back and for saving brother Rafe. Ed knows he has much to explain. She sweetly suggests later. He looks at her, marvels she has her mother's beautiful eyes, as does Arianna. How he loves them! The granddaughter is placed close to him and plays with a ring, placing it back on his finger ... Rafe asks Marlena for ever last detail about wicked Winterthorne. Steve growls he is going to get the bastards and find John. Kayla reminds him he is already facing trial. He tells her he has no intention of abandoning his partner ... John scoffs at his father for making him a killer and now wanting his blood. The crazed war vet counters it would be for a sacred cause, even if he died. John grimaces. This sounds like it is going to get worse. And that's a fact. THE END!
