There is only one DaysCafe :) Now without further ado ... It is night in Salem, with thunder and lightning. Such is to be expected since Stefano's portrait is in the dark DiMera living room, facing the fire in the fireplace. Chad is drinking in the darkness as he could not sleep. He speaks to Stefano, that he always came back from the dead before. It does not feel real that he is gone. He remembers how he returned to EJ and Tony, then softly asks for forgiveness. All of a sudden, suited Stefano appears in his wheelchair and raises his brandy glass in salute with a smile. He tells his startled son he took his shots so he is here to listen to him ... Jen is working late at the hospital as she has work to do. Eric arrives and she sighs about her problem. He scoffs problem? Is that what it was for her? Jen reminds him of the campaign she messed up, the fact that her boss has not forgotten. Eric laments she forgot that they kissed. She laughs at the notion and notes he must be mistaken ... Roman sits Steve down opposite him at the station. He too is working late cos Andre was arrested for murdering Stefano and now Steve has been arrested for murdering Ava. Steve insists he did it, she pushed him too far and he suffocated her with the pillow on her face. Roman eyes him and explains the bit of blood they found on said pillow did not belong to Ava or even him. Steve keeps on confessing ... Joey is in front of the fireplace in the darkness at home. He imagines Ava standing before him and cries out NOOOOOOOOO. But it is not Ava, it is Kayla. She assures her son it will be alright. He gasps he cannot do it, he cannot let dad go to jail for murder. Kayla attempts to console him, unaware he is the real killer ... Steve continues to cover for his son by stating that after he had smothered Ava, Joey came in the room. This is the first Roman has heard of it. Steve airily adds it could be his blood from the cut on his hand and he might have taken the pillow off. Roman wants to talk to the witness but Steve insists that is not necessary, he is fully confessing. Roman peers at him ... Chad comfortably sits on the floor and admits his father was the scariest son of a beech. Stefano roars with laughter. Chad concedes the new family he found himself in was both creepy and exciting. He ran after a while but then came back cos he could not stay away from EJ's kids, especially that gem Johnny. He sighs about losing Lexie as she represented the best in them. Father phoenix grins he was always a good boy. Chad now confides he felt he could not become the son he wanted to take over his empire. Stefano tells him to continue, he is listening. Chad muses then he must be dead for in life he never listened. He gets choked up and asks what happened to make the phoenix the way he always became ... Jen finds Eric's claim that they kissed funny and muses they must have been drunk. Eric gets exasperated ... Kayla hugs Joey and then spies the scratch on his hand. He confesses he was drinking at a bash, where he broke a bottle. She suggests they be strong. Steve was simply provoked by evil Ava. Joey numbly notes he promised his father he would say nothing but he can no longer do it. He now blurts out DAD DIDN'T KILL AVA. I DID! Eric informs Jen why it troubles him that she forgot their kiss. She was high at the time and had admitted she had a problem. Jen would rather not discuss but Eric is bothered that she must have suffered a blackout. He urges her to attend a meeting with him in the morning. She humors him until he leaves ... Stefano wonders whether Chad everrrrrr felt he loved him. Indeed. Stefano sighs to him everything was just a game but now where he is he will have to pay the price for all eternity! He tells his son to learn from the mistakes of the father and be the man he wants to be. Chad gets choked up. Father and son embrace ... Joey cries to his horrified mother how it happened. He was drunk and went to confront Ava. He was so consumed with rage he killed her! Kayla urges him to stay silent about this and let his father proceed with his plan. Then she holds him tight ... The sun comes up in Salem. Chad wakes up on the couch as the woman he loves holds his hand and sweetly notes he did not come to bed all night. He sits up and mutters he saw his father and it must have been a dream. Abigail believes it was an actual visit as she experienced the same thing after papa Jack passed. He came back as they had more to discuss. Chad agrees it was more than a dream. She warmly asks whether it was a good visit. Chad feels free at long last and suggests a dream wedding at DiMera mansion immediately. Abigail smiles and they kiss in bliss ... John and Marlena are at home in the morning. They have heard about Steve killing Ava and Belle representing him. John mutters Ava will not be missed. Belle is all business like. John leaves for the station, hell bent on helping his partner. Belle is sorry to inform Marlena that Eric's sentencing hearing does not look well. He will be facing prison time, possibly 14 years. Marlena looks ready to faint ... Kayla is at home sleeping on the sofa when Roman arrives. He asks if there is anything else he should know about Steve's case. Kayla states she knows only what her hubby said and suggests Roman give ma her best. Roman leaves with a smile, which is replaced by a frown as he walks out the front door. Kayla starts to worry and searches the house for Joey ... Abigail and Chad are at Horton house, happily wedding planning together. Jen is horrified to hear they are planning to marry at DiMera mansion next Friday. She forces a smile and agrees to help, ignoring Eric's text from the hospital AA meeting. Once Chad and Abigail exit on their wedding planning errands, she pops more pills ... At the station, John approaches handcuffed Steve, ready to conduct an investigation on his behalf. Steve tells him no need cos he confessed. John senses something is off. Belle arrives and escorts her client to a private room ... At the hospital, Marlena meets up with Eric. She has heard about his sentencing date and is surprised when he states he is more worried about his friend who became addicted to pain killers after the big car accident he caused . He swears her to secrecy and updates her on Jen. Marlena notes she has family who could help, like Lucas. Eric lets her know Lucas is out of town for the time being. He implores his mother to keep an eye on her once he is gone. Marlena promises and he hugs her in gratitude. But Marlena the vision in blue looks nervous ... Back at the station, ice princess Belle is in fine form. She informs Commissioner Roman that her client's confession does not count as he had no lawyer present. They are planning to plead self-defense so kindly prepare the paperwork for a bail hearing. Roman is puzzled ... Eric appears at Jen's door insisting she needs that meeting now. High Jen primly takes off with her purse and snaps she has wedding errands ... Back at DiMera mansion, romantic Chad repeats he feels wonderfully free. Abigail is exhilarated over their upcoming wedding and steps out for a few more errands. It all feels like the perfect love story ... Until JJ ominously enters and drops a bombshell on Chad.
