COURAGE UNDER FIRE

PART 1

- Marlena meets Jack at the town square. He would rather they have the session at her office, but she only has a question. She is meeting with war vets from Iraq, Afghanistan (and Bosnia) for a group therapy session. He should join them. Jack starts to hyperventilate it would be too difficult.
He simply cannot! The people in her group were heroes who defended their country. It would be an insult for him to dare compare whatever he experienced. Dr. Marlena thinks that is for them to decide. Jack starts to leave and she notes he is running away yet again! That stops him in his tracks.
- Abigail joins Madison at the café. Madison asks her to edit something
for her. Abigail smiles and wonders what her job will be. Mad grins she has big plans for her! She now takes her to the spa, intent on rescuing Quinn from the boring, old fashioned clutches of Kate DiMera ...
- At the spa, Quinn talks to Mel about Abigail, her former best friend.
Mel sighs the girl now hates her. Quinn thinks Abigail was hurt and he is sure she regrets what she said. Mel doubts it. Quinn is speaking from experience when he explains it is easier to fix things before they go too
far. Quinn now heads out to meet Madison and sends Abigail off to do him a favor. Abigail ends up being in the same room as Mel and is not at all pleased. Quinn set them up! Abigail also thinks her former BFF has no desire to see her anymore, which surprises Mel.
- John and Brady are ready to start work together. John has an idea for
a banner in a fashion magazine. BLACK IS BACK! Brady calls it too predictable. They need to do something different. Who reads mags now anyway? Most young women are online. They need a Twitter account,
an application. John disagrees. Brady disagrees that he disagrees! He is dead wrong! John bites his tongue, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
He wants him to say what he feels, but within limits. If they are too cool, it will look like they are panicking. Brady points out one has to be a shark now to succeed. John reminds him he was in fact the one who started a successful company. Brady suddenly questions whether they can even work together! He did a good job at Titan. John retorts he did a GREAT job but he just means they should not use his idea yet. Brady warns if not now, it will be too late! John argues he is the CEO. His reputation is tied to this. Brady argues he left his CEO position to launch this. Things get heated. John thinks he is being a jerk - just like him! They both start to laugh. Brady concludes they are too much alike. John still stands by
what he said. But they can disagree on the big stuff cos the biggest thing
is he can trust him. How about a compromise? Brady makes a joke and agrees.
- Madison pokes fun at Kate's old style products and then offers to use Quinn's spa for a successful campaign - something Kate knows nothing about! Quinn considers. Madison takes him by the arm and tells him this will go big enough for him to open a chain of spas, sooooo when do they start?
- Marlena has escorted nervous Jack to the door of her vets meeting. He hesitates. She calls him courageous. He does not think he can do this.
She assures him the vets help each other, they do not judge. Jack finds
the strength to enter so that he can become the father his kids deserve. Marlena walks into the room with Jack and the group inside appears bored. Except for Leslie, who warmly greets him. She is a partially blind young woman with a dog. Note: Leslie is a bona fide war veteran! She introduces the three guys, who have all served. They are all experiencing issues. Paco no longer feels at home. They wonder where Jack served.
He is a journalist. Mike is not a fan of journalists cos they get it wrong. Marlena explains Jack was there too. Leslie thinks they should listen to
his tale of where he was. He recounts being in Kandahar and starts to gasp. Leslie asks how long he was there. About a year. He adds he was kidnapped and kept in a cave most of that time. He too feels like he is
not at home. He feels like he is still back there. Jack is now standing.
The guy next to him gets testy he is standing over him. Leslie invites him to join them. Marlena asks her what she wanted to share. She praises the people of Bosnia. Jack is amazed that is what she remembers. She points out she can still walk and has partial vision. The guys start to talk. Rob laments he is medically retired. Paco feels he let the other guys down. He still hears the gunfire and sees the faces of the guys in his unit. He cannot even talk to his wife about it. Paco is only 20 years old. Jack calls him a kid. He retorts no more. A lady called Pat, a Marine, arrives. Marlena thinks Jack should tell her his story too. The guys call her a good listener.
- Back at the spa, Quinn finds Abigail and Mel together. Mel has just congratulated Abigail on the new internship. Madison is present too and announces she wants the spa to feature an ad campaign for a new line. She wishes Mel and Abigail to be the new faces. She really likes how
they relate to each other. "Related," corrects Quinn. Madison leers Kate
is being old school with the typical boy and girl campaign. She wants a fresh campaign about friends. Quinn quips that might be a problem. Mad remarks if the girls are on the outs, then she cannot use either one of them. Abigail and Mel pause. They clearly want to be models. But can they be friends again  ...?
