Kayla knows why son Joey is here at the hospital with her. But when Steve steps out stating it has been a while, she snaps at him, scoffing what is he doing in Salem ... At the nightclub, Aiden's proposal gets no answer from Hope, who pours herself more wine. She admits she had not been expecting such a sudden suggestion of marriage. Aiden the charmer pulls out all the stops and makes her get misty-eyed when he murmurs she is the most amazing woman he has ever met and wants to spend the rest of his life with her. She sighs she does feel the same though there are other things to consider, such as how hurt she was when Bo deserted her, not to mention how Ciara would handle the news. Aiden smiles and says all the right things. He ends up insisting she keep the ring a while as she mulls it over and sweeps her off her feet for a slow dance. Hope dances and kisses her paramour. But she does end the date with a MAYBE ... At the square Ben has a sweet treat for Abigail but she loses her appetite when he continues to claim Chad DiMera could be the killer. She wishes he would not use poor Serena's tragic end as a way to trash talk Chad. Ben claims he was merely concerned since Chad is in Abi's sphere. He wants to protect his pregnant fiancee. Abigail insists he did not do it. Ben apologizes and agrees to focus on them. They end up at the park, not far from the scene of the crime. Abigail eats some of the dessert, declaring she will be a big bride when she marries him at Christmastime. Ben would have wanted a faster wedding and seems almost stressed. Abigail patiently points out she loves the Christmas season, which is already festive with the family around. Ben agrees and they kiss to the future .... As Stefano lurks unseen in the shadows, Rafe plays a game of cat and mouse with Chad, who clearly cannot remember everything about the night Serena was killed. He is cornered into admitting he was with her until she left the club angry about his come on, but claims not to know how he got that cut on his lip. Rafe gives him the evil eye and questions the truthfulness of his timeline. His story seems full of holes ... After a quick call with Joey's school, Kayla demands answers from father and son. How did Joey end up at his absentee father's door in New York City? Steve suggests Joe go get himself a beverage so he can speak privately with his mother. Kayla stomps ahead to her office ... Rafe is already aware that Chad and Serena had been downing scotch together, and both had had bad days. He wonders how far Chad might have gone without even remembering but stops short of saying so. Chad flashes back to falling out of bed at the Salem Inn the morning after, not knowing how he got there but says nothing. Detective Rafe smells a secret and keeps staring ... Kayla is cold toward Steve in her office. He appears hurt by the fact that she is now Dr. Kayla Brady, no longer a Johnson. He thinks she looks mighty fine and agrees to explain what he wanted with this private meeting, noting maybe she will lecture him like she used too. Kayla grimaces, still feeling the hurt of her husband leaving her and her son in Africa for the ISA. As it turns out, unbeknownst to Kayla, Steve and his son Joe had found each other through social media and had been emailing up a storm. Kayla blinks in bewilderment since her boy made no mention of it. Steve states he was not happy about having to go away for school. Joe, who has been listening at the door, enters and continues the story for a few seconds. His father brought him back to Salem after he admitted he had not gone to school in Ohio. Steve eventually admits to Kayla that he came back for another reason as well. He is thinking of moving home to Salem for good. Kayla orders him back to New York since there is nothing for him here. He calmly counters he has his family here. She snaps not to try and use his son to recapture the past. It will not work. Steve talks future. Kayla tries to act like she doesn't care. She takes him to task for choosing the ISA over their family once upon a time. He drawls he has since left the ISA. But Kayla is a busy chief-of-staff. She wants him to go. He drawls he will for now but this is far from over ...Detective Rafe acts doubtful as he takes his leave from the dark DiMera mansion. Chad reaches for a drink. Stefano is back in view, his blue tie mirroring his blue mood about what he just heard. He growls drinking is how his son got into such a mess! Chad insists he is innocent. The phoenix frowns at Detective Hernandez's implications, that suggested otherwise. He is aware that his son has no alibi from the time he left the club until he checked into the Salem Inn. It paints a damning picture ... At the Horton square Steve is much moved by the sight of the plaque honoring Tom and Alice Horton. He tenderly touches it and heads off to see an old friend. It has been too long ... Joey sulks at the pub with Kayla about Steve using him as a way to get to her. He sulks even more when Kayla refers to Patchman's unreliable past despite his best intentions ... Detective Hope is in her office at the station. She cannot conceal her surprise when Steve stops by for an unannounced visit and a squeeze. He is a blast from Bo's and her past. The mood is rather light until he asks after Bo. Then Hope gets tight-lipped and tells him Bo deserted her 3 years ago, after he went undercover for the ISA. Patchman pales and points out that does not sound like the Bo he knows. Hope snaps he changed. Steve stands there and starts thinking ... He wonders how Hope and Ciara have been coping. Hope would rather not continue the conversation and criticizes men who join the ISA and leave their wives to raise the children while they are MIA. Steve is still thinking. He confesses he came back to Salem to get Kayla back. Looks like it will be tougher than he thought. Hope excuses herself to get back to a case. If he stays in town, she will be happy to talk to him again ... Chad is insulted that Stefano is implying he killed Serena. He storms out of the mansion dragging the luggage he could carry after himself. Stefano's crafty eyes cloud over with concern...When Kayla comes back to her office, Steve is waiting. Hope made him see how much he had hurt her all those years ago and he is deeply sorry. He makes a heartfelt announcement ... How Steve Feels! Kayla chokes back the tears and demands Steve stop for he cannot change the past. She will never forgive him for his abandonment and orders him out of her office as she has a medical matter to attend to. Patchman pauses. Never is not a word in his vocabulary ... Aiden is standing outside on his phone, smugly promising to pay back what he owes, though he needs an extension of about a month. The cash grab he has coming his way will then settle his debt with more money to spare ... Meanwhile Hope meets Rafe back at the park. Diligent Detective Hernandez has found a possible piece of evidence at the scene of the crime. A cocktail napkin with blood on it. And as the victim was not bleeding, tis the blood of another, maybe the murderer. Hope smiles and welcomes Rafe back to the Salem P.D. ...Ben and Abigail kiss in bliss on a park bench nearby ... Chad returns to his hotel room, pours himself a drink, and wonders why oh why he cannot remember what really happened that fateful night...! THE END Ahead on Days: John tries to sweep Marlena off her feet. JJ gets an order. Jen vs Eve again. Three greedy women! |
