Soap Sins Monday, March 26, 2012 CHAPTER 27 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. LINK ONLY! PLAN GONE WRONG! Previously on SOAP SINS All of a sudden, Dakota's phone made a sound and she glanced down at the text message. It was from Brent the blonde surfer dude. At least she knew he was real. She wished his message wasn't, though. BAD NEWS. BILL FOUND DEAD IN DRESSING ROOM. L.A.P.D. NOW ON SCENE ... The story now continues ... - Dakota was beside herself. Sweet, lovable, boozing Bill couldn't be dead! She raced to his dressing room, but the door was closed and a burly cop stood before it, arms folded. - Dakota whispered "Is he ...?" - "I'm sorry, ma'm. The man inside is deceased and I have strict orders not to let anyone inside." Pause. "I do hope you get an Emmy this year. You had some great dramatic moments." - Dakota felt a hand on her shoulder. It was Brent the blonde surfer dude. Cops made him nervous. So did dead bodies. "C'mon. Let's go for a walk." - They put on their designer sunglasses and walked slowly outside the studio. He handed her a kleenex to wipe the tears from her face. "They dunno what the cause of death was yet. Bummer he's gone." - "It must have been murder!" she gasped. - "If it was, it might have been the same person who made Nick's plane go down. Good thing he survived." - Dakota blinked and then remembered she had left the African Queen back in her dressing room. She recalled her warning about Nick's dangerous twin Ned, who'd just gotten out of jail. Might Dakota have been sleeping with the enemy the other night? - Brent sighed. "I can feel your anguish but ..." - "Bill will be terribly missed," she lamented. - "You have a plan." - She blew her nose in the kleenex and nodded. "Of course I have a plan. He was a true friend and we cannot let his death go unpunished! By the way, how did it go with Tony the mobster's daughter?" - Brent shrugged his shoulders. "She was a no show." - Dakota wasn't surprised. Her mob boss father probably controlled her every move. Might he have been connected to Ned too? First she needed to find out who the man presently hiding in her house in the Hollywood Hills really was. And she would have to act fast. - "I need to borrow your Swiss army knife." - "Dunno if I like the sound of that." He handed it over when she explained it was for her own protection. Until she got a new gun. Her last one - the tiny revolver with the mother of pearl inlaid grip - had turned out to be a valuable antique so she had donated it to a museum. She requested Brent come to the house later that evening with the news that Bill had been killed. And he was to announce it as if she was hearing it for the first time. The loyal flunky agreed, no questions asked. - With the Swiss army knife in her Prada bag, Dakota went to her car. As she was pulling out of the studio lot, a typical California downpour covered everything in its path. She turned on her noisy windshield wipers and drove in the direction of the once glorious Hollywood sign. Hopefully there would be no mudslides. The drive up the narrow, winding road to her secluded house felt like forever. It was still pouring when she got out of the car and entered through the front door. Her hair was wet. So was Nick's - or whoever he was. He had a towel wrapped around himself and claimed he had just come from the sauna. - Dakota opened her Prada bag to drop her car keys inside but it slipped through her wet fingers and the bag fell to the floor with a loud leather thud. 'Nick' frowned and bent over to retrieve the Swiss army knife that had fallen out. "Either we're having canned beans tonight and you couldn't find a can opener - or you're afraid of me." His eyes narrowed as he toyed with the knife. "You're afraid of me, aren't you ...?" |
