Soap Sins Monday, November 28, 2011 CHAPTER 11 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. LINK ONLY! EARTHQUAKE! - The earthquake that hit the studio was strong enough to make some lights and sets come tumbling down. Luckily the sets that fell were flimsy outdoor scenes, but the lights were another matter. When the remaining ones flickered and came back on, three people were lying on the floor, surrounded by large fragments of glass. One of them was Bill the lovable drunk whose balance hadn't been sober enough to let him remain standing as the room shook, the other was Dakota, whom he had stumbled and fallen on top of, and the last one was a good looking British extra. Bill eventually staggered to his feet and apologized to his leading lady, who took a deep breath as he helped her up. - "Why is that man not moving?" - The props guy crouched down and had a closer look. "He's not breathing either." - Dominic also crouched down and checked for a pulse. "Nothing." - Chip the producer burst in and asked if everyone was alright. You could see his beady eyes scan the studio to make sure his stars had been unharmed. When they told him about the extra, he promised to call for an ambulance, and left. - April and Tammy exchanged stories on how frightened they had been. Brent the surfer dude nodded silently and grinned the way he did when he was nervous. Bill took his flask from his pocket and openly drank rum. He then shared it with the crew people, who were still dazed. Dakota watched and waited. The paramedics came and announced there was nothing they could do for the British extra. Tests would later revel that the falling debris hadn't killed him. He had apparently suffered a heart attack from the stress of the event, compounded by the fact that he had ingested cocaine the previous night, and his blood pressure was elevated. But Chip was not about the give up the chance for some free publicity. He issued a statement to soap opera websites and magazines that the show was mourning the loss of one of their own during the earthquake of November 2011. He gave interviews, insisting he had been planning to offer the extra a recurring role, and even made the TV entertainment news. - Dakota returned home early to her house in the Hollywood Hills, relieved that none of her prized possessions had been damaged. All of a sudden, however, her life, success, and the jewelry and designer clothes seemed so shallow. She wondered if the shallowness of the Hollywood life had been what prompted Nick to take a leave of absence from his prime time show and do a one man show on Broadway after she told him she wanted a divorce ... Before she could wonder anymore, the housekeeper announced a visitor. It was Marv, her manager and lawyer. He kissed her on both cheeks and said she looked fabulous. - Dakota sat on the red satin covered sofa next to the fake Chinese vase she had been given by an ageing movie actress once upon a time. Marv sat down beside her and got straight to the point. "You've got an offer on the table. Now, I know you are still mad since I couldn't get them to consider you for the next sequel of Scarlet, but everything has its time and this is a pretty good one. They've asked you to be the spokeswoman for Queen Crystal Cosmetics." - Dakota slowly shook her head. “I have just had an epiphany and have decided to do some good for others, atone for past sins. Advise the cosmetics people that April Almondine would be better suited to the job, given her modeling background. And then get me Nick's phone number in New York." - Marv sighed. "Being in an earthquake is no reason to lose your edge." - Dakota smiled. "This is the new, improved do gooder Dakota Diamonelle, and the public will love me even more, just you wait ...!" |
