The red coat! He is horrified. Marlena probes. Meanwhile Belle makes light of her missing red button. Rafe holds up the evidence bag with said button that was discovered at Charlie's place that fateful night. He demands Belle explain. She looks stunned. So does Shawn ... Tripp blushes just like smitten Allie and heads home with his chowder ... Claire doubts Jan would honor any agreement. She assumes she hates Belle and wants Shawn. Jan calmly claims she has moved on and primly suggests pal Claire rejoice with her. Dale is dead. Claire warns her not to go near her family or else ... Belle denies ever entering Charlie's apartment. Rafe interrogates. Shawn's blue eyes are perturbed ... John winces so Marlena wakes him up. The hero hyperventilates in horror. He was there! Marlena wonders who did it. BELLE. Perplexed Marlena probes. He gasps he saw her in her red coat and hood from behind. It makes sense! Belle had that run-in with Dale when she caught him scaring Claire. Marlena confirms their daughter was wearing her red coat that fateful night. - Trask steps forward and insists Belle is the new suspect. Rafe is ordered to arrest ... Tripp comes home with the chowder plus apple pie for grateful Kayla. Steve asks after Allie. Tripp gushes they are both moving forward. Kayla gets the gang to the table for chowder. Steve pours the wine. Stylish stepmom Kayla talks Tripp starting rounds tomorrow. The happy young man proceeds to praise Allie, how he wants to help her with Henry while she looks for work. Papa Steve teases he sounds smitten ... Claire leaves Belle an anxious message and updates recently arrived Allie. Belle made a scandalous deal with Jan! Allie is relieved John will not be sent to the slammer ... John emphatically explains Belle's coat was the one he saw. Of that he was certain. Then he staggered back to his car. He thinks she did it, but Marlena disagrees. They must find her for answers. Salem patient Jan walks in and innocently wonders what is going on ... Trask reminds Rafe he said his only unresolved clue was the red button. Shawn accuses Trask of using a random button to close her case. Trask taunts Belle did it to protect her daughter. Shawn protests. Trask alludes to the case being a slam dunk. Belle cringes ... Jan comes bearing news, but miffed John and Marlena are already aware of the deal. She babbles about not having conflict with Belle anymore. John is still concerned about Claire. Jan thinks they are fine and feels Charlie's killer did the world a favor. Marlena eyes the psycho ... Allie updates Claire on her job search and asks if she can watch Henry sometimes. Tripp offered but the amazing guy is just getting back to his medical future. He is soooooo wonderful with Henry and will be a wonderful doctor. Claire senses feelings ... Tripp will only say he likes cool girl Allie. Kayla bears a gift from the hospital - his very own lab coat. Tripp tries it on like a GQ medicine man. The second surprise is his hospital ID. Tripp stammers he cannot use that. - Shawn insists he was with Belle most of that night. He went to find missing Claire while Belle stayed home. Trask slyly suggests she sneaked out, but Belle denies it. Trask orders Rafe to arrest but he drawls the evidence is insufficient. Shawn also argues. Trask tells irate Rafe that Belle had means, motive and opportunity. She threatens to depose the commissioner if he does not do his duty ... Still blushing Allie liiiiiiikes Tripp but feels badly about the past ... Steve and Kayla are stunned. Tripp was planning to tell them of his recent reflections. Steve and Kayla are his home ... Jan keeps going about Dale so John cuts her off and Marlena reveals they do not approve of the deal. Jan leaves and Marlena and John take off to talk to their daughter. Jan creeps back into the dark office ... Steve and Kayla hear that Tripp hired Justin and now he is officially Tripp Johnson! The proud parents have tears in their eyes ... Marlena and John are happy to find Allie, Henry and Claire together. Allie heads home and Marlena explains they are here to see mama Belle. Claire is sorry to say she is not at home. - Rafe will not be bullied, but raging bull Trask pulls rank. Arrest Belle now! Shawn will not allow it. Trask shouts tis not his decision, her eyes flashing ... Jan breaks into Marlena's desk drawer so she can hear her session with John. She proceeds to play the tiny recorder with the big bombshell - but the biggest one is yet to come ... Steve is much moved. Kayla stands by her man. Father and son embrace. Both fellows feel honored. Tripp credits Kayla with making him want to be a dedicated doctor and loves his new start with them. Family hug! Meanwhile Marlena cannot reach Belle and calls Shawn, only to hear Belle was just arrested ... Rafe hates reading Belle her rights as Shawn stares in silence ... Jan gleefully listens to the recording as John wails he watched Belle shoot Charlie Dale. Jan now remembers the moment when SHE shot Charlie Dale while wearing the red coat. The beech is back!
