Variety called it the surprising twist of the night when DAYS OF OUR LIVES and Young & Restless TIED for the most outstanding daytime series at the Daytime Emmys. That is what soap operas do - they twist and tantalize! The outstanding lead actress was Maura West of General Hospital. The outstanding lead actor was Anthony Geary of General Hospital. Outstanding supporting actress was Amelia Heinle of Young and Restless. Outstanding supporting actor was Chad Duell of General Hospital. Outstanding younger actress was Hunter King of Young and Restless. Outstanding younger actor was Freddie Smith of Days of Our Lives! Outstanding directing team was awarded to the Bold and Beautiful. Outstanding writing team was also awarded to the Bold and Beautiful. SOAP GODDESS Deidre Hall introduced a heartfelt tribute to "DAYS" reaching its 50th year on television, which showed clips of those days gone by, then daytime TV's first gay wedding! The cast appeared onstage to thunderous applause ... Other highlights were hostess Tyra's timeless beauty and style, tributes to Betty White, Joan Rivers, and a rather odd parking-lot struggle between Alan Thicke and a younger winning actress, whose Emmy statue he tried to grab ....
