He packs, declares they are done and departs. She wakes up with a start. Real Xander wonders ... Chad bears news from the lawyer EJ got Kristen. The judge will not budge so she is Statesville bound ... Nicole joins EJ in sleeping Susan's room. She hears mom is alright but is worried about him ... Sami bangs and screams to be released. The wooden door opens ... EJ updates Nicole on motha's strange devil dreams and escorts her away to discuss ... Sami's guard Jason is back. She wants breakfast. Not today for she has been bad. He wants his stolen burner phone back. When he talks tough she grudgingly gives it over and tells him tis dead. He laughs when he hears she called her mother who has not been able to help her. Sami is simply desperate. Marlena is in danger! She appeals to him to let her go home to all she loves ... EJ tells Nicole the strange story of his motha almost losing her life in the DiMera crypt. Susan insisted Marlena was the devil. Strangely Steve said it was true but was summoned somewhere before he could explain. That aside, EJ has been affected by her sacrifice to die for him whether or not it was sane. He regrets the years he was ashamed of her and breaks down. Nicole consoles him. - Chad warns Kristen no escaping. She casually claims she will appeal and digests today is her transfer day. She sends Chad to get her a sandwich and makes use of his phone. Time to make a summons or two ... Sami does not deny she called mama Marlena, who was chained to a wall! Jason wants to know who else she called. Her husband ... EJ praises Nicole as one of the few select people who have seen his softer side. She feels honored ... Commissioner Rafe kisses Ava in bed and muses he must go to work. She realizes she needs a real job minus the blackmail. Rafe agrees. She is grateful he gave her a clean slate and promises not to blow it. They kiss in bliss - but trouble is just a call away ... Xander and Gwen snuggle. She makes the hunk happy and loves hearing it. She checks her phone in case she heard from Jack. No luck. Tis Kristen using Chad's phone and she sounds serious ... Nicole tells EJ tis not weak to be vulnerable but tis human. She finds it attractive. He sighs about Samantha and she wonders whether he got another call. No but he has it covered. Nicole is suspicious Sami has stayed away for so long. After she left him she appealed to Gabi for a place to stay but then went AWOL. Nicole cannot imagine why Sami would not want to come back to him. Ooooooo - Jason has read the gossip and laughs when Sami states her call to hubby went dead. She knows he would have come to rescue her ... Kristen threatens to tell Xander that Gwen has been hiding the truth about Sarah being alive from him. She bears orders but if Gwen does not help, Xander will hear the truth and leave her forever. Gwen gasps she has no clue how to get anyone out of jail. Kristen can provide a plan and will summon a second party to assist. After Gwen ends the call towel-clad Xander wonders who rang ... Back at the station Chad runs into Rafe while carrying Kristen's sandwich. Rafe warns Kristen cannot trade places with Susan again since she is in hospital. He deduces Lani would not help her either. However, Ava swore that time she was close to Kristen escaping that she never even saw her. Chad is bewildered he bought her story ... Kristen calls Ava for a favor. The reformed mafia princess refuses to risk her romance with Rafe. Ava threatens to expose how she helped her last time. Unless she follows her instructions ... - Sami promises EJ will pay a fortune for Jason to release the mother of his kids. He insists his employer has no interest in money. Sami probes but gets no name ... Nicole notes Sami is a fighter. It is odd she vanished. EJ blames himself ... Ava has heard Kristen loud and clear. Kristen deletes her calls as appalled Chad reappears, aghast she stole his phone. She fibs she just wanted to call Brady. Alas he hung up. He gives her the sandwich bag and leaves livid ... Blackmailed stylish Ava is on the move ... Gwen fibs Chad called to tell her off for misleading them about the miscarriage. Xander scoffs he should be grateful for wot he's got. Gwen senses he has Sarah on his mind but he smiles he already forgot her, kisses his love interest and goes to dress. Gwen gets more stressed ... Jason refuses to reveal his boss' name. Sami guilts him into bringing her breakfast. He takes the burner phone with him ... - EJ recounts how he told Samantha he never wanted to see her again and sighs he was too cruel. He had already been verbally abusive with her for a whole year. Nicole would rather not discuss but EJ wants to be a better person, now inspired by sweet mama Susan. Samantha did not let him give up for so long and he regrets repaying her by behaving like a monster. Then she cheated with the simpleton! Still she saved him. Nicole senses his feelings run deep. He regrets Sami not knowing how grateful he feels for he pushed her away. Nicole wonders. He claims he does not regret his reaction over her breaking their vows. Now she is not here and he is moving forward. He takes Nicole's hands. It has been a hard night and he has done some soul searching. Nicole has given him hope for the future. He is now with the one he wants. Nicole nods and he wonders about Rafe. She assures him she too is with the one she wants ... Rafe enters Kristen's room and lets her know the prison van is en route. She believes there is paperwork. He tells her it has all been done ... Ava shows up at Gwen's door and seethes she was sent by Kristen. They are now partners in crime ... Susan wakes up in a haze and Xander introduces himself. He bears flowers. She takes a sniff. He is here to thank her for making him see the light about cheating Sarah. Pseudo-psychic Susan has no idea what he means. Xander solemnly stares ... Sami gets her breakfast and removes the food from the tray.
