She really wants to know how he is and has sensed a strain with EJ. Johnny would rather focus on John the noble man instead of his unforgivable father ... Steve catches up with Abe at John's Picture. These dudes knew him better than anyone. Steve had Black Patch adventures and brings up Abe's Salem PD adventures. They agree you could always count on John Black to have your back ... Holy Eric stands at the podium and smiles, thanking all for coming. Tis time to pay tribute to Salem's hottest spy ... Alas sobbing Rachel refuses to sit down cos she is not ready to let her formidable grandfather go. Marlena sweetly suggests she keep his baseball card to remember the good times. Brady suggests they go home. Tate offers to take her home with Ari. Brady and Marlena return to their seats. Eric welcomes all and glances at John's picture. They are honoring his life and his legacy. Tis time for a prayer but this is not just a soap show today. This is the raw emotion of a cast who has lost one of its own, someone who seemed larger than life ... Sad faces and real tears. Eric declares Heaven is rejoicing over his return. I myself am convinced of that. - Sad piano music. In the name of the father the son the Holy Spirit. Kate sits by Roman as Eric reads from the book of Ruth. WHEREVER YOU GO I WILL GO ... Closeups. Kayla cries. Shawn arrives and sits behind her. Belle notices Shawn ... Elsewhere Bo has arranged a romantic table outside to surprise Hope. Ciara and Chelsea are said to have helped. She loves how romantic he is. He wonders what is the matter and senses she is hiding something. Alas she must tell him that John is gone. Bo gasps NO ... Brady leads the sad Salemites in Amazing Grace. So many tears in the stoic silence ... Now Abe stands with Steve and Shane and notes they represent the professional life of John Black. All great men. Abe recalls their days at the Salem P.D. Shane states he was his Boss at the ISA. Steve was later John's partner at Black Patch. He was a champion of justice and risked his life without hesitation. Shane alludes to his commendations and admits there were many secret missions. Steve reminds them how he saved the life of a man he considered a brother in his last act of courage. Abe talks loyalty. If one was in his circle it was forever. Shane calls him a loyal friend and real hero. Their friendship enriched their lives and he made the world a safer place. Tragic tears flow down Marlena’s beautiful face ... - Horrified Bo blames himself for John losing his life in that lab. He wishes Hope had told him. She could not cos he had endured a great deal. The talk turns to Marlena and she notes the funeral is today. Bo insists on going to be there for John and his family, doctors be damned ... Back at St. Luke's Kayla and Roman take to the podium. Roman clears his throat and recalls how things were complicated when he came home after all those years. He loved the man for taking care of his kids and his family. They became his family. Kayla calls John her brother by heart. She praises him for bringing Bo back from his coma. Roman adds they will always be grateful. Kayla recalls how Caroline decided he was still her son DNA be darned. He even named his first son after her family. Marlena smiles at Brady. Kayla cries John's legacy lives in all of them ... Belle takes to the podium in her little black dress. Papa John was her superhero for all occasions. She smiles through her tears and praises his powerful presence and great advice. Then there was his sense of humor. Abe smiles. Elegant Kate looks sad ... - Alas the lady doctor refuses to approve Bo's request to leave the hospital. He complains to Hope, who refuses to risk losing him. But Beauregard Brady is determined to do right by his late great friend ... Now Paul is at the podium. The newest member of the Black family believes baseball brought them together. Precious memories. Paul marvels John might have been a pro ball player in a past life (just like Drake!) He was a natural. The gang chuckle when he impersonates John - really Drake - declaring Sandberg was one of the greatest pitchers of all time. His pop was a perfect second basemen. He pivoted with grace no matter what the world threw at him. Nods. Alas he wishes they had more time but is grateful for his love.
