Gwen gazes at her sleeping prince and woefully wonders how to keep him far from Sarah. He wakes up and bids her good morning. She talks New year and he smiles about new starts. She says out with the old and he senses she means Sarah. She argues Sarah's no contact shows she did not want him or Rex anymore. She calls herself his girlfriend and grumbles about him pining over his ex. Then she gets closer ... Nicole has tears of torment in her eyes when she explains she wants Eric happy. He murmurs he wants the same for her and wonders whether she is seeing someone. EJ. Eric is appalled. He assumes EJ was the one who abducted sister Sami ... Sami still doubts her dastardly abductor was EJ. Lucas points out he wanted to punish her. Sami argues he had already given her the boot ... Abigail cannot imagine Lucas would go to such extremes. EJ changes the subject to work and suggests Chad come to the office. Chad snaps to stay the hell away from DiMera ... Xander is sorry if he hurt Gwen and denies wanting Sarah back. He is simply worried about her since her happy texts to Maggie about being with Rex were not true. Gwen argues daughters keep secrets from mothers. She did. Xander counters Maggie and Sarah were close but Gwen argues Maggie was an addict and must have let her daughter down. Xander is bewildered by her new attitude about marvelous Maggie ... - Maggie came for Xander. Jen watches. The redhead informs Jack he hopes to be friends again. Jack cannot forgive how Abigail was hurt when he covered for Gwen. Maggie has done as Xander asked and concludes what Jack wants to do is his decision ... Nicole insists EJ was not lying when he said he was innocent. Father Eric praises her benevolence but seems perturbed. He breathes he wanted to see her before going back to Africa. She gets choked up and admits she will miss him. He will miss her and hugs her. He repeats he wishes her happiness with someone as they try to hide their tears of torment ... Chad argues the shareholders are aware of the charges against EJ. Abigail agrees they would be hard to convince of his innocence without it coming from a judge. Chad feels he should be the face of DiMera at least until the situation changes ... Ponytail Sami thinks Lucas' theory that EJ did it lacks logic. He notes no one else would have done it ... Xander disagrees with Gwen's take that Maggie and Sarah had trust issues. He reminds her that Maggie agreed to defend her to Jack. He wonders how it went and decides to check in. He does not deny he will also ask her about Sarah. Then they can be out with the old and celebrate the new. Gwen gets glum ... Jen hugs Maggie as does Jack. They wish each other a happy new year. After the redhead has left, Jen reminds Jack that Gwen is his daughter. She promises to support his decision. Alas he worries about Abigail's reaction ... EJ angrily agrees to temporarily work behind the scenes. Chad heads to the office. Abigail plans to see her parents ... Livid Lucas continues to claim EJ did it. EJ suddenly calls and summons Sami to the mansion. She leaves. Lucas decides he needs more damning evidence and gets a wicked grin ... Jen suggests Jack ask Abigail how she would feel. Maggie is much pleased to see Xander and updates him on Jack needing time to make up his mind. Xander came concerning Sarah. As per Rex they never even left Salem together. The redhead admits her daughter did not reply to her recent texts. Worry sets it ... EJ gives himself a pep talk and assumes he is opening the door to Samantha. Tis concerned Nicole. She asks how he fares. Fine since he is about to clear his good name. Sami arrives, annoyed to see her arch enemy and wonders what the hell ... - Chad ends a call with Shin about asking EJ to avoid DiMera and steps away from the office. Lucas sneaks in ... Abigail assures Jack she will not interfere if he attempts to restart his relationship with Gwen. Jen returns with huge news ... Xander convinces concerned Maggie to call Sarah. The number is no longer in service ... EJ claims Nicole was checking on him and does not mind her hearing him tell Samantha he was framed by Lucas. Sami gives him a strange look ...
