EJ now gets his chance with the witness and asks him to describe wot he noticed about the house. The living room French door had been left open but he saw no shooter. Brother EJ was the only person he saw that fateful night and he feared he would not make it ... - Smart Phil knows all about Steph's bad romances. He also recognized some of himself in her manuscript. That means others also might, which will not bode well for Titan ... Belle cross examines commissioner Jada, who confirms Roman's firearm was used to shoot EJ. Roman turned it in ... When EJ cross-examines he gets Jada to admit there was no physical evidence on the gun. He proceeds to air their past issues and makes her admit she did in the past claim she wanted him dead. He then cuts her off ... Belle cross-examines Roman, aka ex cop and Salem commiss, and asks about the missing gun. He had discussed it with Johnny, how it was always locked up in his box at the pub. That was around the same time Johnny learned the truth about EJ. Belle asks if he knew about Johnny's anger. EJ objects. Overruled ... Roman reveals Johnny had many reasons to be mad at his dad. Johnny looks depressed ... - Chad runs into Steph at the square and warns her it was unwise to accept a job with EJ ... Kate believes Steph having a pseudonym and her protection will be sufficient to hide who she is. She recalls her own steamy story that she wrote once upon a time. Phil is shocked to hear it was about Bill Horton and she wrote it while still married to Curtis. Alas Jack got his hands on it and attempted to publish it but was stopped. Later it came back to bite her at the murder trial of creepy Curtis. Phil is aghast and wishes he had appreciated his life. She praises him for his latest accomplishments - no thanks to Xander... - Belle makes Roman admit he overheard Johnny uttering threats about his dastardly dad. Roman reveals he wound up finding his missing gun in a planter outside the DiMera mansion. Then he heard sirens, realized help was on its way and returned to the pub, where he put the gun back in the bar lockbox. He admits a bullet was missing and he wiped the weapon down. Belle wonders why and he admits at the time he believed his grandson might have been the shooter. Belle sits back down. Johnny hangs his head in shame ... Back at the square Steph assures Chad she will not let EJ push her around. One cannot let the past hurt oneself ... - Phil advises Kate not pay Xander any mind. She feels pretty safe since she is on the inside and excuses herself to take care of a check. Phil agrees with her that one must keep friends close and enemies closer ... Steph gets home to Jada and announces she is facing her fear head on. She bravely opens the the box. Tis a tote bag she ordered! Jada wonders about the mysterious guy she worried was making contact. Steph will only say her manuscript has some events from her past that she wants to stay in the past ... EJ asks Roman if he ever wished him dead and then withdraws the question. But he gets back to the gun in the safe and reminds him his gun shot him. Perhaps he pulled the trigger. Madam Judge objects so he withdraws the question.
