Days of Our Lives Refresher Course!
Inspired by a question from Roline in South Africa.

The postman rings twice and our Sami tries everything twice too!
Sami tried to marry Austin two more times (after their brief union ended)
and failed both times. The first second marriage attempt was a bust because Austin discovered Sami lied over Lucas hitting Will and the third attempt at
a second wedding was doomed when Austin discovered Sami blackmailed
Lexie into letting Carrie think she couldn't have a healthy baby with Austin! Austin and Carrie reconciled and left for Switzerland. Will later joined them
when Sami hooked up with EJ, and is now back. Sami had better hope that Carrie never returns cos she was livid when she left and would surely tell
Rafe a thing or two about those deceitful days, To get back to her double
trouble ... Sami has had twins, two kids by EJ, not to mention that Lucas,
the father of her firstborn, has twice shot a man Sami was about to marry -
first Franco, then EJ.

He is always the last man standing!
Remember Belle and Philip's marriage and baby, who turned out to be
Shawn's (they were together in a snowstorm and forgot!). Upset Phil
joined the Marines, got injured, and returned after he received a face
transplant, courtesy of Victor. Mimi married Shawn, who denounced her
after learning that Mims knew Claire was his child with Belle but did not
tell him. Phil was embittered and wanted custody of Claire, so Shawn and
Belle ran away together with their daughter. After their island adventure,
they returned to Salem and Shawn applied to train for the Salem P.D. Belle
was a bundle of nerves. Eventually they were written off the show, deciding
to take Claire again and sail around the world like Bo and Hope. One unusual thing was that while Phil was married to Belle, they decided on in vitro fertilization, as did Shawn and Mimi (Phil had difficulty in that dept and
Mimi could not have kids). The eggs were switched by a mysterious gloved
hand at the hospital, so Belle was impregnated by Shawn's donation and
Mimi's surrogate mother got her and Phil's baby. In the end, Belle lost that
baby. Months later, when Mimi had left Salem, Phil found out he had a son
with a medical condition (the surrogate mother gave birth), so he opted to
give him up, since he, as a single father, felt he could not adequately offer
the same care as two parents. Phil ended up as the last man standing in Shawn/Belle/Philip/Mimi world. He is currently being groomed as the heir apparent of Victor Kiriakis and is a ruthless, at times sensitive version of his
dear old dad, who fires and rehires him numerous times.  In the end, Phil
will outlive Victor as time passes, so he will be the last man standing in that storyline as well. Ironically, EJ was the gloved hand mastermind (sometimes
he did the work, other times it was his flunky Patrick Lockhart). He was responsible for Belle's egg getting fertilized by Shawn instead of Phillip, but
the young Kiriakis heir has yet to find that out. Just another reason for him
to be anti-DiMera!

ONCE AGAIN, LIFE IS CRAZIER THAN A SOAP OPERA!

On Days of Our Lives, Sami was with both Lucas and EJ, and the
result was that twins Aly and Johnny had different fathers (Lucas and
EJ respectively).

Now it's gone and happened for real! It is literally a one in a million
chance. And the Texas woman who gave birth to these twins is called
Mia! I kid you not!  Her partner James fathered one of the twins and an unnamed fellow fathered the second. Rather interestingly, James is the
real name of the actor who plays EJ! Even wilder is that the real life mom
(Mia) is now pregnant with another child by her partner James.

On Days of Our Lives, Sami also had yet another baby by EJ (played by
James Scott) but that baby was switched and so now Sami unknowingly
has Mia's baby!

The soap gods must be crazy!

LIFE IS CRAZIER THAN A SOAP OPERA!

Think the DiMeras vs. the Kiriakis clan is extreme? Consider what
just happened in real life in Turkey. At a rural engagement party,
44 guests were gunned down - including the happy couple - as the
result of a feud between two families.

Think Lucas' drinking problem gets brought up too much? Think again!
It is believed that 8% of Americans have a drinking problem. Russia,
however, leads the pack, home to a whopping 2.3 million alcoholics!

Think the Sami/Nicole baby switch story is too wild? Think again!
It happened for real in Virginia some years back and one of the babies
was named Rebecca GRACE. The hospital baby switch was never
learned by the parents who accidentally took Rebecca GRACE home
as their own, cos by the time it was discovered, 3 years later, they had
tragically died, in a July 4 car crash.

Think FBI Rafe's life is too extreme? Think again! Some years ago, an
FBI agent had to bring down a mysterious mafia head who turned out to
be his wife's little brother!

Think Dr. Baker the baby broker is too out there? Think again! The baby
broker who arranged a certain Hollywood star's international adoption a few years back was later accused of being a co-conspirator in falsifying babies' documents!

BREAKING SOAP NEWS
We regret to report that James E. Reilly, creator of Passions
and former head writer of Days of Our Lives, recently passed
away after cardiac surgery, at the age of 60. To quote the French
writer Baudelaire, "Art is long, time is short." Mr. Reilly will live
on through his significant contributions to the artistic world of

Lastly but certainly not leastly, Bryan Dattilo (Lucas)
recently thrilled a Days fan on the Ellen show, who had
the treat of meeting members of the Days cast. The big
Bryan thrill came when instead of a regular hug, Bryan
planted a big, romantic, soap style kiss on the overwhelmed
gal ... Rumor has it he got 10 for technical merit, 10 for artistic!

MIRRORS OF OUR LIVES ...

Mirrors of Our Lives?

In 2004, Tony DiMera was killed by a once Brady (Marlena). Actor
Thaao Penghlis had learned of his character's death in October.
Tony was later revealed to be Andre.

In 2007 October Tony's half-brother John - the husband of Marlena -
was killed. The trail will lead to Andre DiMera.

Following his character's sudden demise in 2004, Thaao Penghlis (Tony/Andre) went overseas, gave a somewhat cryptic interview
about the show, and his fans launched a campaign to have him reinstated.
It was later revealed that Marlena hadn't killed anyone, that the DiMeras
had faked the deaths. Tony was alive and well on a faraway island ...

Following his character's sudden demise in 2007, Drake Hogestyn (John)
went overseas, gave a somewhat cryptic interview about the show, and
his fans launched a campaign to have him reinstated ...

UPDATE: told ya!

Joe Mascolo - aka STEFANO - Live Blog Quotes
from June 21, 2007

"It's always wonderful driving the people of Salem insane,
because it's a wonderful fantasy.
I like playing both sides of the character.

Stefano's favorite child would be the oldest male, and that
would be Tony.

Stefano's coming back to deal with his sons. There's two and a
half sons. Elvis is a son, when I left the show, who was not there.
That's only 7-8 years ago, but he certainly grew up fast. I think
you'll see stuff coming up where I'm trying to stop these guys
from coming in and roughing each other up.

I don't know if they would reveal John to be a Brady. I think it's
funny that Stefano has his kidney. I would love to do more work
with him. If he's a Brady or not, I have no idea. Going back in
time is pretty interesting. I know fans want to know Stefano's
background, what makes him who he is. I hope our current
storyline will answer some of those questions about his family ..."

STEFANO'S LAST STAND!

The Salem P.D. were after the Master DiMera for having
stolen Bo and Hope's baby, whom he gave to Lexie, to
raise as her adopted child. Bo was enraged. With John
leading the pack, the Salem P.D. surrounded Stefano at the
DiMera mansion. Stefano pretended to hold a gun to daughter
Lexie and made his escape down to the cellar, with John in
hot pursuit. Stefano left Lexie. John raced on. Shots were fired
in the dark corridor but Stefano soon overpowered John's mind
with psychological warfare. John flashed back to his pawn past
and collapsed. Stefano slipped through a secret exit and Bart
later drove him to the airport in a convertible, where the now
Hawaiian-shirt clad villain bid a final farewell to Salem ...
That was June 2001 - the last time he was seen conscious
by Salemites.
Stay tuned!

P.S. Then came the bags of fan mail protests,  jammed
fax machines - but that is a whole other story :)

CHAVEZ & SOAPS!
LINK ONLY!

He sticks out his tongue at the free world, allies himself with Fidel Castro, and yells himself into a frenzy, but a little known fact about current Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is that he used television to broadcast
a soap opera. A soap opera to improve his image and spread his beliefs. And that's not all. The angry orator - who recently called George Bush
the devil - has been romantically linked to a soap opera star! Soaps and Chavez. An Orpheus, Ernesto, Stefano wannabe? Naaa. El presidente is more like a cross between Days' Horton the tiger and Tom Fisher from the Young and Restless, the good news being that both vanished from the
radar almost as quickly as they appeared ...

SCANDAL UPDATE (link only)
I have been in direct contact with the New York Post
and they have
confirmed that Ms. Boof's exact quote
was "I took characteristics straight from Osama. This character wants to take over the world."
ADDITION: She has since been let go by the show.

SCANDAL ALERT! (link only)
By now the whole soap world knows that Kola Boof, the former forced mistress of Osama Bin Laden, is writing for Days of Our Lives. It is a tragedy when a woman is victimized and certainly a triumph when she finally has her moment to shine.
As of this morning, however, I am bombarded with emails from angry
Days fans. Why? In a recent
New York Post interview Ms. Boof stated she
is using the characteristics of Bin Laden for one of the villains on the show. And the fans do not want to see any of Bin Laden's characteristics on their favorite sudser.
Perhaps Ms. Boof  might consider sharing her information with the appropriate audience - the global intelligence community - as she is currently missing her mark.
Stefano would be appalled.

By now we all know that Mr. John Ingle is leaving the role of Mickey Horton to return to General Hospital. My feeling is that he would have been best served as a lawyer with courtroom scenes. He has a certain articulate, understated way about him. A pity we did not see enough Mickey courtroom scenes. My fav Mickey moment was when he played
that scene with Trump and had this look of shock on his face, as if he
were thinking "Dear God, it IS his real hair!"
